Mumbai: Sunil Gavaskar has blamed former India coach Greg Chappell for the team's downfall and questioned the logic of the Board offering him the post of consultant of the National Cricket Academy.

"It's never easy sacking somebody, however incapable and inefficient he/she may be," the former India skipper said in his syndicated column on Sunday. "But to give another job and that too one which deals with the future of Indian cricket after the mess the present of Indian cricket has been landed into, makes one wonder if we will ever get out of the inferiority complex syndrome," he said.

What's wrong with this man? I think he has some serious inferiority complex with Australian players/coaches. First it was about David hookes, now he is targetting Chappell. This is RIDICULOUS. :mad

Of course Chappell was the one who lost it all. He was the one who batted poorly, bowled poorly and fielded poorly. Let's not blame the players, let's blame the guy sitting in a box for the whole match, providing advice before the game.

Lol always good to blame anyone but the players. Oh well if India believe that then they won't be getting anywhere soon.

I dont know , why Coaches always get blame if anything goes wrong ,Did coach told indian plyers , go and give ur wicket cheaply , dont take catches , bowl in worse length and line as u can . Well Indian cricket is really going worst day by day , they got huge money , but no help for cricket .Gavskar has always have a clash with Australian players and all . India didnt know how to get good services from a coach . SO if they appoint 10 coaches they still cannot improve

If coaches are of such utmost importance in the success of the Indian team, why not just get the coach to play on the field  .

The coach actually might even do better than some of the players (*cough* Sehwag...)

Is it me or does Gavaskar seem to moan about quite a lot of things?

I think that truly responsible people are those who can take responsibility for their actions and fully accept blame. I saw Dravid doing that, I saw Chappell going half-way on that, but why is Gavaskar not blaming the players rather than the coach?

He is right on questioning the logic of offering the post of consultant at the NCA to some one who did not work well with Indian cricket.

Take it or not, Chappell was brought to take Indian cricket to the next level. His job also has to do with making the players give their best, and the players didnt do. So he has to take the blame, which he did when he left. We have heard tons of stories of how insecure he made the players feel. A majority of the players have complained about this in anonymous garb. There are many other allegations on him.

Yes I know the players have to perform on the field, but the coach needs to use the right mechanism to make them perform as needed, and Chappell didnt achieve that!

Ofcourse chappel is at fault but not entirely. At the end of the day its up to the players to perform and i blame indian politics. Also, the unnecessary pressure from politicians and businesses should also play a role. Try that on top of the community pressure. India's unsuccessful world cup is attributed to a lack of communication between players, coaches and selectors (yep my theory again).
"Now even Ireland has a chance beating Australia sooner rather than later"- harsh comment...

All criticism gets reflected back to the coach. I do not see how Greg Chappel gets all the blame. He coahces the players to go out on the field and play to the abilities but the coach is not the one who is out on the field when the game needs winning, it is up to the players. And if the players cannot perform to their skill then it is absolute crap if it gets hit back at Greg Chappel. It has to be blamed at the players because there was no standout performances and the team did not play to their potential.

I really want to know what level they were expecting from him, . You can't get in any level, unless the players put their hands-up. Even before the worldcup, there were issues in the selection. I really feel sorry for the new coach, whoever it might be. All the best!!!

:upray

Sunil Gavaskar blames every else expect for people from his own country
