While it may be a bit old now, Adobe have made the CS2 version of Photoshop and the rest of the Creative Suite 2 available for free - the site is currently down, but it's worth trying in the near to distant future if you're currently trying to use GIMP or something like that.

What's a gradient map and clipping mask and what are they used for? I need help in the respective areas, want to take my works to another level using them, but I can't grasp the basics.
