Help needed

Due to pc problems I have had to re-install the game. On trying to play, by using the normal process eg. exhibition match etc, game crashes to desktop when the yellow loading up bar is halfway along. This has happened many,many times. I have un-installed and re-installed so many times I have lost count. I am running the game as it came on the disk, no patches or mods, just as it came from the shop. Prior to having to re-install the game ran with no problems for 10 months. I have put the settings, ie. antialiasing and anti filtering and drivers back to how they were prior to having to uninstall, everything is the same.
Saved games also crash on loading
Practice nets will not load
All other games eg. battlefield 1942 run just fine
System info: nvidia geforce4 mx 440 128
Driver: 41.09

Tried "rolling back" drivers and re-installing direct x, all hardware eg. sound,gamepad running fine.

I would be most grateful if anyone could give me asistance, I have searched the forums for suggestions, found them and tried them eg. the geforce4 fix help from Feb this year, still no joy.

the game has problems running in gf4 mx due to some buffer problem.try the latest drivers from http://www.nvidia.com or http://www.guru3d.com.not not only c2k2 but most games has problems with gf4 mx.

There is a hidden buffer setting .get a hex editor and open the settings.sgs in My Documents\EA Sports\Cricket 2002 and turn all the left side values to 01,so for eg it should look like 01010101010101......01, and save the file.now open c2k2 and config your settings.

Sam,displaying a a double thumbs up as promised. I will try the drivers, many thanks. What I ca'nt understand is that prior to un-installing, the game ran with no problems at all. Same settings and drivers being used now and I have problems, a mystery as nothing else on the machine has changes and my settings such as antialiasing are the same as they were.. I will leave the hex editing thank you, tried that last year for the configs etc., still recovering now, not a pleasant experience.

Still having major problems,game keeps crashing on the load screen,yellow bar gets halfway across then back to desktop etc, this happens on all game levels for all game types,including saved games from my previous install,game ran fine for 10 months.
Latest Nvidia drivers 44.03 installed
running directx 8.1
hb studios/ea patch 1.06 installed
no problems with cd-rom as it runs fine on another pc
scandisk run and disk defragemented
all other games run fine just a problem with cricket 2002
cricket 2002 running unmodded or patched (apart from the official 1.06 patch)

System info:
pentium 4 2.4
512 ddr ram
ac97 5.1 sound card
nvidia mx440 128mb card

Anyone any ideas as to this problem could be solved?

First of all, take out the patch. Then put DirectX 9.0a Beta And reinstall the game.

Yes take out the patch. I installed it on my nex system with XP without patch and its running fine. EA patch doesnt add anything anyways. So why bother.
take it out and have direct x 9.0, it works fine for me.

Sachida,thanks for the help,you have a geforce4 mx440?
If this is correct,what settings are you running? eg antialiasing/antriscopic filtering,what settings do you have these on?
What drivers are you running,I am running the latest nvidia drivers 44.03

What resolution are you running? ie. 800x600, and what colour depth eg 16/32?

Any suggestions most welcome.

Try reinstalling that drivers. I sure hope that you didn't delete the folder in the main HD folder made when you installed the drivers :o

Hi psmith,
Yes I do have Geforce mx 440. Drivers are also the same. I think your problem has to do with refresh rate of the video adaptor. I had same problem with Blc on another computer and kind of got solved when I tweaked with frequency. So try to do that.

Since I use Sony H13 15" LCD monitor the maximum resolution I can get is 1200x780 something. I use that to play the game ( I choose the higher option from game menu). The refresh rate is 70 mhz.

For other setting it runs on allof them but the one I am currently using, I have to check when I reach home.

I tried your suggestion,with some progress,I re-installed the game,it ran from the install (when it has finished installing it asks if you want to launch), I launched and it ran ok, using the "playnow" option, I completed this match exited and tried to re-start the game, the same problem,crashing on the loading screen happened. Tried many times with the same result. Very confused now,seems to be one step forward and two back
Thanks once again for the help.

What makes things worse is that the game ran so well for month and months,if only I could get back to this.

PSmith, Can you run dxdiag and see if the TestDirect3D tests works perfectly for all modes(Direct3D 7, Direct3D 8 and Direct3D 9) of Direct Draw.

Thanks for the help,dxdiag run,all versions of d/x running ok. The problem has been identified as the ea sports v 1.06 patch,everytime I run the normal ck2002 exe, it tried to run this patch,tried to locate it on the system to remove,all searching techniques tried,ca'nt be found,yet it is there. Going to try a system restore and see how things go.

I cant understand what you want to say. The game itself is looking for patch?? I think I will try to send you the exe file. Overwirte it and see what goes on. Send me email address....
