In 13 days time it will be the 19th Aniversary of the Hillsbrough disaster where 96 fans, men women and children, lost their lives in the worst disaster in British football history. The match was Liverpool vs Nottingham Forest in the Semi final of the Fa cup. Eventhough Liverpool got twice the attendence of Nottingham Forest fans at Home games. The fa gave Forest 7,000 more tickets and gave them the bigger stand ( The Kop). Many people will say it was Drunken Scousers who caused it but in the Lord Justice Taylor report that came after the tradgy. He says how more nottingham forest fans were noticed drunk and many liverpool fans ended up getting to the game just before the game due to trouble on the roads. The report revelled how the ignorence of the police and the fa caused the problems and the tradgy was waiting to happen.
A few days after the event the Sun newspaper had a headline " The Truth" which in it said how drunken scousers had pissed and kicked and stole from dying people. All this was lies and with no evidence they had said that. I cant even think how it would have felt being in a hospital bed after seeing children being crushed and killed in front of you now having to read lies about urself. In kenny Daglish autobigraphy he says how the Current editor of the sun, Kelvin McKenzie , rang him and asked him how they could sort it out kenny replied telling him " Where you put the truth write we lied" and then hung up.
So on April 15th ill be having a moment to think about the famlies who lost farthers,mothers,grandparents,sons and daughters and i hope you join with me
