Story Hong Kong Days: Chapter 5: Where's Chris: Part 2

How will Drake perform on Twenty20 d?but against United Arab Emirates?

  • A miserable effort where he is sadly ducked and then slogged at 10+ an over without taking a wicket

  • Will not bat as top order will do their job and UAE will be all out before he comes on with the ball

Instinctively I leap into the air with my right hand held up high ready to grasp it...

the ball ricohet's of my hands and hits me in the eyes and falls to the ground. the batsmen run 3 in the process :D

great update there hoping for a big score for drake when or if he bats.

Chapter 4: Vs United Arab Emirates: Part 2

I felt a tingling sensation which soon turned to pain in on the tips of my fingers as the ball thumped them in mid air. "@!#$" I thought to myself as I fell to the ground without the ball in my hands. I lay on the ground sulking unaware the ball had fallen behind me and was now seated next to my leg. The batsmen used this to casually run a second run as my team mates yelled at me to pick up the ball.

6 runs came from that over, two of them at the expense of me and I'm surprised it wasn't more. Spelman seemed rather chuffed with himself, the closer in fielders were shouting things like "Bowlin' Spelly" and "That's what we want to see good over, Spelly!" He resumed his position in the field and looked at me, I nodded but he looked pretty ticked off with me for dropping that catch. He had every reason to be ticked off with me as the next over was a disaster, it turned out Lusith Alexander had a knack for running between the wickets, he hit leg glances straight to the fielders but they were still beautifully executed and he still managed to squeeze those extra runs from them.

After 6 runs from 3 balls Lusith Alexander agreed to exchange the strike but it cost 3 runs due to a misfield my Vikram Miller. One would think it would be a relief to get him off of strike but oh no, it turned out his partner at the other end, Chandra Javed, was even better at running between the wickets and scored 2 runs off of a ball that most batsman wouldn't dare to run. This over was a demonstration of how you didn't need boundaries to have a huge run rate and to add salt to the wound he hit the last ball for a four.

Spelman was very annoyed that all his hard work from the last over had been undone by his partner at the other end so he seemed pretty angry, he opened up the over with a bouncer that was given a no ball. He followed that no ball up with another no ball except this time it wasn't for bouncing but for stepping over the crease. In total 9 runs where scored off of that over and I think these last 2 overs where UAE's way of showing how much of a step above us they are.

A wicket was needed soon and Sutton delivered on his third ball of his second over, a shorter ball that Javed went in to play the forward defensive to but he went too early and edged it to Vikram Miller at slip. We all ran in the middle cheering, Jamie went round giving every one high fives.

The new batsman looked just as confident as the last one, I was moved to cover point and Chris went to Mid off.

"Hey Drake" Chris whispered as Sutton ran into bowl.
"What?" I replied
"David Sutton's sister is hot!" With that I collapsed on the ground laughing and a ball went blitzing past me which Chris had to immediately chase to make up for making me laugh. It went for two runs. I was then moved to a position far away from Chris in the field and that's where I'd stay for the rest of the innings, far away from Chris.

Leg Spinner Richard Huggins came into the attack, He was a funny chap, he insisted he was an all rounder but Chris Martin was probably a better batsman than him. It looks like we'd found Alexander's weakness and after four nervous dot balls he finally tried to hit out and was caught.

Thanks a lot.

If anyone has any suggestions on how I should present matches in the future let me know as I'm not sure I've really nailed it.

I don't comment much on stories but I'm gonna come out and say that this is one of, if not the best career story I have read on this forum. It is presented in such a way that is incredibly neat whilst also looking fantastic. The writing is top notch with dramatic twists and turns that make me compelled to read the next update.

You fell there? You surely needed to ask more details. The update is very neat and well presented. I recommend you stick with this. Love the short summary card at the last.

I suppose yes, it was just an odd thing to hear. Imagine if you were fielding and the immature guy next to you said the bowler's sister is hot as you were staring at the bowler running in, I'd probably giggle.

This forum has had some great stories... This is one of the best.. Cricket Coach 09 is the best sim to have for a person...!!

Nice, first off, love that summary card
The bowlers went pretty expensive except Huggins
Runs comin fast but the wickets are fallin, pretty even match right now

Chapter 4: Vs United Arab Emirates: Part 3

It was hot, man it was hot. My shirt stuck to my skin, it must've been nearing 45 degrees Celsius. Now we get some pretty hot days in Hong Kong but this was ridiculous. Even Rupert Huggins who had only bowled one over of spin was looking pretty worn out, I couldn't imagine how tired Ian Spelman must've felt at the other end. The heat was making our fielding sloppy and we let two bad shots go for 3 runs which frustrated Ian Spelman who didn't hesitate to tell everyone, how he felt about them.

"Stop fighting guys!" Jamie shouted, his voice hadn't completely broken yet so it did sound a bit silly.
"Shut up you little twerp!" Vikram Miller replied under his breath. He was standing close enough for Jamie to hear and just as Huggins was walking in to bowl. Jamie snapped and leaped onto Vikram's back and whacked his shaven head. The fat elderly lazy umpires waddled over as fast as they could to break up the fight but it was too late. Vikram Miller swung his fist at Jamie's acne covered face and blood erupted everywhere.

"We're gonna need a tissue, I reckon!" Chris said cheekily but nobody was in the mood. The umpires checked to see if Jamie was all right, I did my part by giving Vikram the evils, that'll scar him emotionally I thought.

It was another 15 minutes before we could get going again. Jamie couldn't put his helmet back on and Vikram had been moved into the outfield to prevent further conflict.

Rupert continued his over but seemed rather put off and Rohan Ali calmly hit the ball to the boundary. He was looking like he could build a good innings although it was probably too early to tell.

Spelman was bowled out and went for 6 runs in his last over, the fifth ball going for four runs. In terms of Twenty20 cricket it was a fairly economical over, it was a shame he didn't get a wicket as he deserved one really.

Now that Spelman was bowled out, this left me wondering. Who would bowl next? Was it finally my time to shine, or was it too early? Should I nag the captain for a bowl, maybe he's forgotten about me? What if I nagged him and he put me on and I got completely massacred and then never got a chance to bowl again. I would've lost my confidence after such bad bowling that I wouldn't be able to bat well then what if I was dropped from the team for a streak of poor performances and never got to play for Hong Kong again and ended up working in MacDoanld's trying to pay for university?

These were all questions that had to be answered and they were but it wasn't the answer I was hoping for. Sutton was put back on. I wondered why as he's been smashed at over 10 an over. He conceded 5 runs off of his first over back which wasn't too bad. UAE were now 59/2 of of 9 overs. On paper that would've looked like things were just slightly in our favour but we needed a wicket and couldn't afford to let these two form a partnership.

Once again Rupert Huggins delivered again. The ball turned so quickly Rohan Ali had no idea what to do an was clean bowled. it lifted the teams spirit and even got Jamie happy again.

Our happiness was soon ruined by Gowkaran Roopnarine who hit 10 runs off of his first 3 balls.

TGS

As you can see, my first ever attempt at anything in photoshop, looks really poorly done I know but I'll try and get better as I know this story really lacks in the graphical department.

:hpraise:hpraise

TGS you are a legend... Awesome writing... Loved Reading Each and Every Line...

I think your graphics are fine... nice and simple
Well a bit of in-fighting going on there - not the best for team spirit but hopefully Drake can remove himself from that and put some performances on the board
