I don't think we should really dig into the captaincy issue. The world's best batsmen - Sachin Tendulkar, struggled to make a good captain. There were others too like Rahul Dravid, who is among the best test batsmen and he too was not doing a good job leading the side.
A captain need not be a star player, he just needs to have common sense and can deploy what the coach and cricket board has worked out before the game. A good captain is one who understands his players and gives them the best possible atmosphere (in our case it is the batting position, fielding position, rest etc) to give his best. More often than not, a captain is never the one taking all the decisions. He does it after consulting his superiors.
