How do you score runs on the offside using ground shots???

I have been playing cricket 2005 on medium difficulty on PS2 for a week now but I can't score any runs on the off side at all. Whenever I hit shots along the ground ('X' or 'Triangle' button), the ball goes straight to fielders and never in the gap. I don't have any problems while staying in - I can do that all day long without difficulty but I can't core anything even with my confidence meter 80% up!

And when I try to use L1 or 'Circle', the ball is always caught on the off side. The only option left for me at that point is to try and play everything on the leg side and sometimes acros the line.

Please help if anyone knows how to score on this game using conventional shots along the gound. Oh well! Forget it! Just tell me what do i need to do to score :(

PS2 is very difficult on the offside. The easiest way to hit offside shots is to miss time them! Late is usually quite effective. Try hitting them when the ball is bowled down the center on the offstump. Good luck with the game.

Thanks 'britsh champ'... so that basically means I should look to get my runs mostly thru the leg side :) That's simply weird as after all most of the runs batsmen get in test cricket are through the off side. I thought cricket 2005 was more realistic than Brian Lara 2005... I guess I was mistaken.

By the way, have you, or anyone else for that matter, ever hit a boundary through the off side using a ground shot (using 'triangle' or 'X' button) ??? I mean a shot that actually pierces the field on the off side?

I only have the PC version, but I find cover drives are my most effective scoring shot. I only attempt it at shots that are very pitched up. I also find that back-foot cover drives to the spinners score quite a lot, but there is quite a large risk of getting out.

ok... can't comment on that as I play on PS2 and I really struggle with my off side play. maybe there's a difference in the PC version or something.

I find that giving yourself a little more room to play the shot helps. I back away slightly (as long as its not too wide in the first place) and hit a little squarer. Hitting straight usually goes to mid/long off. This is a little dangerous on a pitch that is swinging, so beware.

Scoring off spinners on the off-side is more difficult. You have to play very square...mainly square drives and cuts. This is good if the ball is pitched short, but if its on a good length then you may have to just give yourself a little more room to move as I have said above.

Just remember though, it all depends on the pitch...don't get too adventurous on a pitch that is turning or swinging.

ok... will do so. By the way how can you hit straight or square using the same shot (let's say cover drive) as you only use the same direction (down & left) for the cover drive.
