How to make a better cricket game (BLIC 08 or 09)

Here's how I will go about making a better cricket game...

1. Take BLIC 99 as the baseline for developing the game.
2. Add 360 degree batting arc mechanism for playing and placing shots anywhere on the ground.
3. If possible, provide a mechanism for selecting shots off the front and back foot.
4. Simply avoid making the AI too retarded such as going for shots with half the side in the pavilion and 40 overs still remaining! I am sure Codemasters, or any other developer, can figure this one out.
5. Add additional gizmos such as 'Hawkeye' wtc. Personally I wouldn't care as long as I get the first four things on my list.

I think the steps mentioned above will give us a much better game than what we have available to us now (including EA series).

1. Dont EA own the rights to that now?
2. Have you played BLIC07?
3. Already in the Ea series, but i personaly find it to fiddly
4. Duh
5. Have you played BLIC07? Hawkeye's included...

Like Pingusten said most of these are already in one game or the other. However if they were all in one game and point 4 was also included then it would make a great game. Have you actually played any cricket games out recently?

I think when he said "add 360 shot selection" he meant keep blic99 as the baseline and RETAIN the 360 shot selection and retain whatever he said "add" as...as if he was showing a recipe to make a game..

@pingusten,
1. No, EA don't own the rights to BLIC 99. The chap who was head of the BLIC 99 development went over to EA but that doesn't mean he own the rights to the game. If an employee moves to a different company, the work that was done by the employee in his previous job is an intellectual property (IP) of the previous company, not the new one.

2. I have played the following games till now: BLIC on Mega Drive, EA Cricket 97 (Ashes edition), BLIC 99, Cricket 2005, BLIC 2005 and BLIC 07 (only for a short while on my friend's system). Wasn't too impressed by BLIC 07 and found it too similar to BLIC 05.

3. Yup, EA already has front & back foot shot selection but not the 360 degree shot selection and BLIC gameplay.

4. ???

5. I have but I don't really care about the additional gizmos & views as long as the first 4 points are in place.

As playkid12 mentioned, I want the BLIC 99 as the base gameplay engine and add the additional features on top of that game, especially the 360 degree shot selection.

You may want to try out the upcoming game:The Art of Cricket. However, it won't have the "additional gizmos". Then again, those are the preipheral aspects of a game. It will be great enough to have a game with realistic gameplay, and "updated gizmos".

Yup, will try the game. But I find it so frustrating that after nailing down the game in the first shot, Codies still haven't managed to come up with a playable version 8 years down the line.

Also, EA is at least moving in the right direction - for example EA 2007 is definitely better than EA 2005. But honestly how many people can say the same about Codies?

You are grossly misinformed!

HB Studios bought out the code to BLC 99 and have used it in every game they have made from Cricket 2002 onwards. HB Studios also at that time (and maybe still now) contains the members of the team who made BLC 99.

Manee is correct. However, after playing BLC 99 again and cricket 2005 and Cricket 07 I can't see many similarities between AI and overall gameplay. BLC 99 is so much better! EA only beats it by graphics (only just though :)!)

I can definitely say that the Codies are also moving in the right direction. BLIC 2007 is a really good game - esp the online play. I don't know if I like it more than 2005, but I know for sure that its miles ahead of EA 2007 and EA 2005, so does it really matter if EA's going in the right direction? I mean, they're still behind the codies. The games that have come out prove that when codies go in the right direction, they go miles in that direction. Whereas, when EA goes in the right direction, they go a few inches.

I was under the impression that HB studio, or EA, had hired the person who managed the development of BLIC 99 game (Justin Forest). In case HB Studios/EA bought the game (BLIC) as well, then I guess EA/HB studios should take the blame for not doing justice to the game.

And agree with Khan31 that EA's cricket games don't have much similarity with BLIC 99 - I wonder what they achieved by buying the game???

playkid12, I agree that EA's efforts haven't been great but this time round with the advent of century stick control, at least EA seem to have got the correct idea and seem to be heading in the right direction. Also, EA has the right idea about the importance of stats in the game and about front & back foot selection. BLIC seems so easy to play and I feel that AI makes most of the decisions, such as selecting the back or front foot and the only thing that I need to decide is when to press the button.

Right now though, both EA and Codies have lot of work to do to come up with a game that cricket fans can accept as a playable version.
