The reason for the groupings is to do with their ranking in the ICC ODI Table. Belwo is the table and why the groups are as so:
1)Australia 140
2)New Zealand 117
3)Sri Lanka 116
4)Pakistan 109
5)South Africa 107
6)West Indies 105
7)England 103
8)India 98
9)Zimbabwe 50
10)Kenya 26
11)Bangladesh 11...
Below is the schedule after the group stages:
Semi-Final:
1st semi)Winner of Group A v Winner of Group B at Christchurch
2nd semi)Winner of Group C v Winner of Group D at North Wellington
Final:
Winner of 1st Semi v Winner of 2nd Semi at North Wellington (D/N)

I think it would be better if you place the seeds in different groups.

Like
Australia, South Africa, Zimbabwe-A
New Zealand, West Indies, Kenya-B
Sri Lanka, England, Bangladesh-C
Pakistan, India, TBD-D
