For the first time 2 international teams will fight it out in a twenty20 match. R.Ponting and S.Fleming met in middle for the coin toss which New Zealand won and chose to field first. The hard pitch ment that this was sure to be a high scoring 20/20 match but i doubt few people would of thought they could score this much.

Match Report:
M.Clarke and A.Gilchrist made their way to a buzzing auckland stadium wearing their very Retro Kits along with the beige Brigade, yes New Zealand. Proceedings were soon underway and so was the opening pair. A in-form Gilcxhrist smahsed many fours before he dealt with his sixes and along with Clarke made themselves a comfortable start.

- Gilchrist gets going with a 4 through the off-side.
Cricket20042005-04-0217-14-08-73.jpg

- Clakre joins in by picking it of his legs for 4.
J.Willson was given the ball and came up with a beauty when he snuck the ball between Clarkes bat and pad and bowled him to the delgiht of the majority Kiwi crowd.

-M.Clarke misses it and leaves 3 disturbed stumps.
With the overs gradually ticking over A.Gilchrist began to push the runrate on with some tantalising sixes over the bowlers head. However he was left soon 2 short of his maiden 20/20 century when he skied one trying to hit another 6.

Gilchrist connects and the ball goes sailing into the crowd.
Meanwhile a aggressive Symonds knocks up comfortable score himself and evetually accumulates a massive socre thanks to generous last over...

New Zealand v Australia at Auckland Result:
The huge score by Australia in the end proved too much for the Kiwis as they loss the one-off 20/20 match. With little resistance Australia seemed to take wickets at regular intervals always steadily slowing down the runrate. M.Sinclari and S.Styris provided some resistance as they both made it into their 20's but yet again become undone trying to boost the current rate.

Australia showed the way forward for international teams in twenty20 cricket scoring a huge score whilst retaining most wickets as seen on the worm whereas New Zealand showed that keeping wickets is vital if you want to suceed in the final assult. we at skysports caught up with the tow captains and Man of the match A.Gilchrist.
Skyports- "R.Ponting congratulations on this victory in the first ever international Twnety20 match."
R.Ponting- "Thanks but it wouldn't of been done if it wasn't for Symonds and Gilchrist who batted extremely well."
Skysports- "Whats was you rview on 20/20 cricket and do you think it is the way forward."
R.Ponting- "Well off course it is entertaining especially when your dressed in retro kits and having some of the most ridiculus hair styles but yes it is godd but it isn't proper cricket so i think it should remain as one-offs as a pre series build up."
Skyports- "Thanks Ricky and now lets go to S.Fleming. Hi how did you feel with your performance today."
S.Fleming- "Well we are obviously disappointed but it was just a bit of fun and we don't feel it will effect our performance in the series. I think it was great match for both taking part and watching but i look forward to the ODI's and Tests."
Skysports- " Thanks Stephen and now lets present A.Gilchrsit with his Man of the match award for his 98 runs in the first ever international twenty20 match.Adam how did you feel you performed today"
A.Gilchrist- "Thanks . I think we as a team performed extremely well with Kasprowicz getting 4 wickets and Clarke picking up a couple. My own performance was one of my best in ODI cricket. However it doesn't beat high scores in ODI's since i felt i was slogging."
Skysports-" Thanks and we will leave you with some highlights."
-New Zealand hit their first boundary of their chase.
