The International Cricket Council (ICC) was lost for words over revelations made by the new Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman in which he said that the ICC was on a weak standing on legal grounds in the case of Indian Cricket League.

The 70-year-old Ejaz Butt, in his first press conference in Lahore on Monday ruffled a lot of feathers, not only embarrasing the PCB but also degraded Pakistan team coach Geoff Lawson by saying that he has no utility, accused the previous regime of the PCB of frauds and officials trying to run away with the important files.

Butt said the ICC has been warned by its lawyers of the problems ahead if it is sued by the ICL. He also revealed that there are plans of a possible "merger" with the IPL and of the PCB's own possible openness to its younger ICL players returning to the national fold.

"It is embarrasing that how he (Butt) spoke every thing which was confidential and should have remained with the ICC Board members publicly. The legal things should not have been discussed publicly and we are at a loss of words to say anything," ICC sources said.

He stressed that the matter will be taken with the PCB chairman that how he publicly said those things.

Lawson, too is very upset at Butt's remarks. A close friend of Lawson, a former Pakistan player, said the former Australian paceman is due to meet the new chairman and tell about his objections. "It is really embarrassing for the coach. He is badly hurt that his boss is saying so many things about him publicly."

It's been known for a while that the ICC has no legal footing against the ICL, we have a precedent set for "rebel" leagues. Packer World Series Cricket, anyone?
