You can go into safe mode by turning your computer on, and while you're at the Windows XP loading screen (the blue / green bars going through), force the computer to turn off (unplug it, whatever).

Then, turn the computer on, and it should give you the option of going into safe mode.

I press F5 instead to go into Safe mode. It has the same options just like F8.
