I also see that Boult is absent in these squads. It’s good that they’re moving away from him too.

EDIT - Never mind, it is for Tickner. No Sears is shocking (if he’s fit). No Chapman either.
Boult must have himself pulled out of the series now that he is out of the central contract. Must have wanted to rest.

Nah he was dropped. Stead confirmed that it was due to his contract or rather the lack of it.

Funny how that logic doesn’t apply to Neesham now. :p

Been hearing about Sears from a long time from you @Bevab , anything that I am missing about him? Why is he so highly rated?

NZ fans rate him highly for his speed and potential. They think he’s as quick as Lockie on average which I doubt. But he’s certainly capable of consistent 140+ spells and that is something that this side is sorely lacking in tests. They need an enforcer now that Wagner has declined and Sears offers that along with moving the ball either way. He’s also valuable in LO cricket if Lockie’s rut continues and Milne continues to be unreliable for availability.

He’s also one of the few young pace prospects at the moment in a country that has traditionally been filled with them. There’s also the aspect of NZ’s board being conservative in general so having a new talent like Sears is something that excites their fanbase.

Fans of India and New Zealand- the perennial bridesmaids- what do you expect from your teams?

From India- I would want them to embrace a new fearless brand and direction of cricket. I see they have identified a captain in Hardik Pandya. In the lead up to the WT2024, I would like to see a bit of experimentation at the top and the advent of hard hitting bits and pieces players at the bottom. The middle needs an anchor- whom I see in Iyer, for the time being. But he has to come good here.

For New Zealand- Much like India, they need to shed their conservatism. In the finals that NZ has played in the last few years, they dont seem to have had the body language of a side who was willing to boss. This has been missing from them arsenal for a long time. Briefly, under Nash, McCullum and Cairns(whenever he led) they seemed a different unit. One change, I thought they would look at- Tim Southee- dont see him hanging around until the next edition and they ought to have moved on. Perhaps, it might have been a tad too much after the twin blows of Guptill and Boult.

Seems to have settled down. Lot of rumours swivelling that Rohit will relinquish the T20 hat. I do not see him playing many T20 in the coming year and rightly so, as the focus has to shift to ODIs now.

Indian squad for the T20 matches look like a bunch of IPL misfits.

Exactly and that is why the interest for this series is way too low. It is okay that you want to move forward and build a new team for the next WC but this side doesn't even have any plans whatsoever!

Initially I was happy with the squad that the seniors were rested before I realised that we don't even have plans for building the core.

I feel like it's series like these in which players like U.Malik can be tried out. Nothing to lose and everything to gain. Play him in every match and see how that turns out.

Think this is a bit unfair. This is the first series after a WC and too within a short span of time. There's plenty of time to build a core. Let the boys enjoy.
