Last year after very impressive results in WC, Australia series, Pakistan series India proclaimed themselves as ranked second in the world in test cricket(disregarding the ICC test rankings). Many believed it too.

But this season has been disastrous for India since the start and I just wanted to know everybody's honest opinion where India stands now (ranking wise) amongst the test nations?

In my opinion Australia, England, Pakistan would be the top three test nations right now.

India are in top 3 for me, 1 bad series doesn't mean anything.

i still say india second spot because no team has gone to australia and performed how india performed

I agree but past is past now. I am sure you will agree with me that india will lose big time if they happen to go to Australia right now. What I am asking everybody is what ranking would they give to India noting their current form?

Well I would like to agree with Shailesh and others but I personally feel this is a nadir for India...at present the list would go as
Australia, England, Sri Lanka, Pakistan,New Zealand, India, WI, SA, Zim, Ban

I agree with the sachin's list.

not just bad but awfully bad series :D

get ur facts right , Its a 4th position in the icc tst rankings with the same no of rating points as pak who are placed at no.3
One win against SA and a 2-0 win over Bangla will put india at no.2 position

yeah thats what i fail to understand...one victory and India retained their pre-series points total? 105? they should have fallen to 104...anyway like most ICC things this one's crazy too...though I must say I am not dismayed or anything and by beating SA and Bang India can easily make it to independent 3rd pos...coz Pak are playing the toughest tour on earth next...

aren't you lot forgetting that england can maintain there second spot if they beat south africa and the form england is right now they will probably stay 2nd

Yeah but didn't English cricket just take a bit of a break? What if they are affected with rustiness? It may be similar to India's situation. We claimed to be 2nd best in the world after a successful season last year, but now....things are different.

Duh!!

Dont blame rustiness, but blame lack of discipline and a severe lack off allrounders for India's downfall.

India have never been consistent, and are just continuing the trend.

In Test Matches, I would say India are no.4 after Australia, England and South Africa.

In ODIs, India are no. 6, after Australia, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, England, and Pakistan. I would say West Indies, have done well in ODIs, so both India and West Indies are in sixth place.

Yeah...and If I aint wrong...the last time the England team did take a break, they came back to thrash the West Indies 3-0 in the West Indies.

Come on!!, you've blamed every possible thing....umpires(Bucknor, Shepherd, etc..), pitches(NZ), and now breaks??

Of course! But you did forget the weather, especially the rain. And sometimes its the crowd and of course how can you forget the toss. Our team? You think our team is the root of the problem? No, no, no! Our team is perfect, it is always these external factors that cause problems. If you could take all that away, India would be world beaters. :D And on a more serious note--of course there is some amount of rustiness when you've taken a break. Although this may be severely minimised when you're a professional cricketer, there will always be a little period of time when you will have to get used to match conditions.
