International Cricket Captain 2010 Released

While I’ve been caught up with all the fuss over the confusingly similarly named International Cricket 2010, the release of the leading cricket management game’s 2010 edition has slipped me by, but the physical disc version isn’t shipping just yet so I suppose there’s a defence in there somewhere. Anyway the game released via digital download a few days ago for ?15.99, and a few quid more for the boxed version for those who like having a copy of the game on a disc.

I haven’t played it yet and personally don’t really like the management genre, so I won’t even attempt to review it, but there’s a two calendar day demo (so install in the morning to get the most time) available and if you’re even remotely considering getting it, there’s no real reason not to try it.

Taking straight from the ICC website the changes in 2010 are:
* Full schedule of limited overs and 20 over world cup fixtures, including the 20 over world cup game mode.
* New Australian domestic cricket circuit, including first class, one day and 20 over competitions.
* New English cricket competitions, including the 20 over league packed with overseas stars.
* More aggressive and challenging match engine captures the modern game to perfection.
* Play on-line with your English or Australian domestic team.
* Sign reserve overseas players and specialist 20 over players
* Improved vice-captain when skipping matches.
* Complete database of every current first class, list-A limited overs and twenty over player from around the world (over 3000 players).
* Comprehensive domestic and international fixture lists.
* New sort and search database interface, including career strike rates for batsmen.
* Accurate batsmen aggression ratings and improved player rating system.
* Long term test and ODI AI picks improved
* AI bidding improvement to create more balanced teams and more competition for top players
* Ability to declare during intervals
* AI for close finishes and twenty over matches improved for more nail-biters
* Batting aggression realism improved, to reflect real matches
* Fielding engine enhanced to give greater accuracy and boost highlights watching
* New in-game tips to help you master the game
* Auto-simulation removes the need for clicking next over – sit back and relax as the cricket unfolds in front of your eyes

From the screenshots it is absolutely identical graphics wise (but there’s screenshots anyway), but further important additions to the teams and players available is a fairly good selling point, along with all of those extra tournament modes (if you like Twenty20 you’ll probably like it more).

You can download the demo straight from the Childish Things site, though as I’ve read about some speed issues, there’s a PlanetCricket mirror as well.

There are a lot of glitches in the game which have been continued from the previous ones too bad they haven't been rectified.

We've been fixing any bugs that have been noted, there's only a couple (that we know of) that for technical reasons we have to leave for the next development phase. If you pop over to the Childish Things forum and report any bugs there, then we can work on them, if we haven't already been notified of them.
