IPL, 20 overs and pure greed!

May 1 Australian and NZ players will leave IPL. Only retired ones will remain here.

Its not just for money, Yes everybody wants the money but the players who are playing in the moment say they are enjoying playing on the same team as some of the worlds greatest.

I dont know whether i like it or hate it.I sure do like the cricket being played in the IPL but i think this being the first year the teams are not objecting the players' departure to international duties as they want to create a "Good-Thing" image to the IPL.After a few years the teams will start to feel robbed of their players.(1.2 million USD for the winning team and 600,000 USD for the runner-up) When this much money is at stake the teams will slowly start to force the players to stay and win the competition. If the players have a cut in the winnings then they are going to stay too.The teams have only allowed the players to go and nobody knows for sure if this is a clause in the player's contract. I dont like where this is going but all we can do now is wait and watch.

Am trying to understand why a 10 day camp is great for the Aussies, but the West Indies players can remain in the IPL, till 5 days before the first test begins. Its none of us doing but makes little sense, if the best in the world goes camping, so too should every member of the worst. In fact what can happen re the IPL is to keep 3 of our key players in the frame of 20-20 even after the first test commence, I honestly, as a West Indian don't see the reason why our boys could not leave the same time as the Aussies did and be part of our camp from May 12-17.

I think a good way to solve the current system would be to standardize the squads. So perhaps you can select a 16-man squad for a Test series. These people would then be banned from playing anything except games whilst touring with that team. So once you were selected to the Test squad, you would be legally liable to play tour matches and be eligible for Tests and could play nothing else. But if you weren't selected, you could play anything else. That would, of course, require certain stipulations on when to name the squad and whatnot.

Above is a link where on July 30, 2007 Ponting said that the ICL was for guys nearing the end of their careers and it had nothing to offer young cricketers, it was just about "money", guys like Lara was just playing for the money.

Above is a link to Ponting, saying how disappointed he was, for not being purchased for more than the UDS400,000 he went for.

And above is Ponting, today 19/05/08, saying he do not think that the IPL salary cap limit should be stopped because it will give some teams an unfair advantage.

My question is, what is his point, the IPL is all about the "benjamines", so what does it matter if owners who can afford it want to pay 5 million to a player or the IPL itself paying boards for players to even skip international duties, http://content-usa.cricinfo.com/engvnz/content/current/story/351640.html.

Nothing, the problem is people earning too much money, which makes their heads inflate too much.
