skysports-dananjaya-sri-lanka_4483756.jpg

Nominated by
@Akshay.

IPL - 0/47 from four overs in one game

I remember arguing in :sri::bwl:Akila Dananjaya's favour with a friend who had never heard of him until he signed up for Mumbai (he did sign up for Chennai five years ago but never played a game). I promised that he would deliver the goods based on his performances internationally. Imagine my surprise when he concedes nearly fifty runs and looks absolutely toothless while Roy and Pant go berserk. Maybe Chennai did the right thing by not playing him back when his stock was high and he had an air of mystery around to aid him.

And he shall go to... @ahmedleo414 [DOUBLEPOST=1591294508][/DOUBLEPOST]
18 picks gone and I haven't gotten a single one, not sure if I should be worried or happy

Ask and you shall receive.* ;)

* - offer does not work on actually good players.

paul-collingwood-bats-during-the-2010-indian-premier-league-t20-group-stage-match-between-delhi-daredevils-and-royal-challengers-bangalore-played-at-feroz-shah-kotla-stadium-in-delhi.jpg

Reserve Player

IPL -
204 runs @ 40.80 (best 75*) striking at 130.77 (13 sixes) in seven innings taking 5 wickets @ 20.20 (best 2/19) with an economy of 6.81 from 14.5 overs

Captain Colly was snapped up by Delhi despite Pietersen and Flintoff proving to be expensive flops in the previous season. But the decision proved to be the right one as :eng::ar:Paul Collingwood played his role of a batting all-rounder perfectly. His 2010 season was a story of feast or famine with three fifites and three single digit scores. One of those fifties included the monstrous 75* where he smoked seven sixes. After retiring from international duty in 2011, Colly was all set to play an entire season for Rajasthan when fate struck cruelly and he was ruled out due to an injury picked up in the World Cup which ended his brief but successful IPL career.

And he shall go to.... @Bevab (I am amazed).

shahid_afridi-bccl_1366104462_540x540.jpg

Nominated by
@ahmedleo414 and @CerealKiller

Rejected by @Akshay.

IPL - 81 runs @ 10.13 (best 33) striking at 176.09 (5 sixes) in nine innings taking 9 wickets @ 25 (best 3/28) with an economy of 7.5 from thirty overs

I expected Boom Boom :pak::ar:Shahid Afridi to have slightly better numbers than that. For a player who batted in the top six, that batting average is not particularly great (Narine's average for example is much healthier closer to 20 ever since he began pinch-hitting). A closer look at his bowling numbers reveals that he did not bowl his full quota quite often and was either quite economical or a bit expensive with at least a wicket in half of his games. For every memorable performance like the quickfire 20* finish versus Chennai or the rapid 33 versus Delhi, there were times where he got out quite instantly as proven by his single digit scores being between 0 to 2. I believe that he would have largely performed to the same extent in future seasons hypothetically, slightly underperforming when compared to his global T20 record with a slight increase in his batting average due to the odd significant innings.

And he shall go to... @Aislabie

Eoin-Morgan.jpg

Nominated by
@Nilay_60

IPL - 854 runs @ 21.35 (best 66) striking at 121.13 (33 sixes) with 24 catches

There is little doubt that :eng::bat:Eoin Morgan has underachieved massively in IPL for four different sides. For a player who has more than 50 games to his name, he has only one good season in 2013 to his name and has failed to cross the 200 run mark in every other season. Had the current, more aggressive version played a season in 2020 we might hold him in a different light but as of now, Morgan is a below average overseas batsman whose role can be fulfilled by several domestic players.

And the winning bid belongs to... @Aislabie

Nominated by
@Nilay_60

IPL - 5 wickets @ 61.20 (best 2/20) with an economy of 8.5 from 36 overs

Four seasons with three different franchises with most of the time spent on the bench is the IPL tale of :wi::bwl:Jason Holder. He underachieved significantly as a pure bowler for Chennai, played just one game in two seasons for Hyderabad before finishing his final season in Kolkata. All of Holder's five wickets came in just three games while he bowled without much reward in most of the other games. As shown by his record elsewhere, he isn't a T20 player and accommodating him will prove to be a challenge.

And the lucky one to have him shall be... @Akshay. (Russell's presence certainly helps with carrying a relative deadweight like Holder to an extent).

Tim-Southee-1.jpg

Reserve Player

IPL -
28 wickets @ 46.18 (best 3/24) with an economy of 8.74

For a large part of the 2010s, franchises buy :nz::bwl:Tim Southee hoping that he will finally deliver on the potential he has. And they will in turn be reminded every year that he is gash and trusting him with responsibility in the death overs is a farce of the highest order. It is pretty ironic then that in his first IPL game for Chennai, Southee shot to fame by defending six runs in the final over before being replaced by Bollinger. Ever since then, he has served in a quasi-backup role by playing three games in one season and more than six in the next for a total of two seasons per franchise. In the one season where he was a bona fide regular for Mumbai, he averaged 36 but had a decent economy of 7.65. Any dreams of resurrecting an IPL career were doomed when he joined forces with the dreaded Nehra at RCB where he has been thrashed regularly in a small ground and an unfavourable role.

And the rather unlucky person under whose colours he shall play will be... @ahmedleo414 (looks like you have been doomed too).

Peter-Handscomb.jpg

(this is a pretty accurate depiction of his IPL stint)

Nominated by
@Na Maloom Afraad

IPL - 6 runs in one innings striking at 50

:aus::bat:Peter Handscomb was a particularly devious pick. The Aussie got into the IPL on the back of an unbeaten century for the Stars and played his first game as a specialist fielder down at eight. The second one came at four versus the defending champions and he could only struggle to score six runs from twelve deliveries that included no boundaries before Bhajji put him out of his misery. No Indian franchise has dared to touch him since then.

And he shall be playing for... @Nilay_60

Abdur-Razzak_2828137.jpg

Nominated by
@Akshay.

IPL - 0/29 from two overs in one game

Another malicious nomination is :ban::bwl:Abdur Razzak who despite a solid T20I career managed only one game for a dysfunctional RCB team. Versus the eventual champions, he stood no chance and conceded 29 runs in just two overs and never played in the IPL again.

And he shall go to.... @CerealKiller (that bowling attack of yours looks more and more toothless with every passing second).

11sam-billings.JPG

Nominated by
@Aislabie

IPL -
334 runs @ 17.58 (best 56) striking at 133.60 (10 sixes)

For Delhi, :eng::wk:Sam Billings was an inconsistent and moderately aggressive batsman who could be relied on for a 20+ score at a fairly robust rate. However, for a Chennai team that placed it's trust in him he was nothing more than a colossal disappointment who crossed into double figures only twice. What begun as a promising career for both franchises as Billings struck a quickfire fifty petered out into irrelevance by the end of the season. Still, he hasn't secured a not out once in his IPL career and that might have helped boost his average into the low 20s at least. He could be viewed as an upgrade on the domestic keepers who also average in the low 20s with an inferior strike-rate.

And the winning bid has been submitted by... @VC the slogger (a completely redundant move given that you already have a capable middle order keeper which messes up your team more).

Tatenda-Taibu.jpg

Nominated by
@Akshay.

IPL - 31 runs @ 10.33 (best) striking at 119.23 in three innings

Zimbabwe's first IPL representative was the formerly in exile :zim::wk:Tatenda Taibu who played three games for Kolkata but flattered to deceive and never played in the IPL again as he moved into religious work four years later. Despite his poor showing, he could still be a handy fielder due to his speed or a good keeper.

And he shall go to... @Bigby Wolf (you know the world is cruel when you give a Russell and get a Taibu in return).

pollock-1463406451-800.jpg

Nominated by
@Aislabie

IPL - 147 runs @ 18.38 (best 33) striking at 132.43 (8 sixes) in eight innings with 11 wickets @ 27.36 (best 3/12) with an economy of 6.54 from 46 overs

I have seen a flurry of appreciation and comparison posts for :saf::ar:Shaun Pollock all across social media recently and with him also being picked in another draft by @Aislabie, it is of no doubt why he has been nominated. He played only one season but he did so in exemplary style and captained the team in the absence of Bhajji and Tendulkar. Of particular note was his ability to bowl economical spells towards the death overs.

And he shall go to... @Bigby Wolf

sunil-narine-1462306805-800.jpg

Nominated by
@Bigby Wolf

Rejected by None

IPL - 771 runs @ 17.52 (best 75) striking at 168.34 (44 sixes) taking 122 wickets @ 23.32 (best 5/19) with an economy of 6.68

The final gift from @Bigby Wolf is one of the greatest spinners in T20 history. While post-ban :wi::ar:Sunil Narine is still a useful stock spinner, the pre-2014 version was godly with him pretty much running circles around every batsman facing him. Three seasons where his bowling average never rose above 20 led to two league wins for Kolkata. The problems begun when finger spinners were under the microscope for suspect bowling actions and Narine was one of the worst affected by it. Ever since then, Narine's average has never been below 27 and his economy also rose. Despite that, Narine's reinvention as a pinch-hitter at the top of the order reinvented his career and has once again made him an important player in Kolkata's team. And even if he is not as consistent these days, there is no spinner more controlled on his day.

The winning bid for him has been submitted by.... @VC the slogger (the best option to balance out the Price problem).
Surely, @Bigby Wolf didn't check out the previous layer drafts.

IPL -
15 wickets @ 20.47 (best 4/31) with an economy of 8.81 from 34.5 overs

Left-arm seamer :saf::bwl:Yusuf Abdulla was a canny operator who relied on many variations after being signed as a replacement player by Punjab. His early IPL career was nothing short of a tremendous success as he befuddled batsmen constantly on familiar pitches. But then he lost form and fitness and when he played in the next season, he was a pale shadow of his former self. He was expensive but knew how to take wickets whenever required and a T20 specialist is always nice to have in the team.

And he shall go to... @ahmedleo414
