Story Kent in the Twenty20 (C2004)

I'll be starting my first ever story here. It will follow Kent in the Twenty20 Cup. The story will follow the real life championship and I will be using realistic lineups where possible. The CPU will play my opposition and other matches will use the real life games.

Can I do better than Kent in reality?

The first Game will be Kent v Essex. The match will be played at Canterbury (No Beckenham in the game of course).

On a warm and Sunny day Kent skipper Rob Key wins the toss and decides to put Essex into bat, prefering to chase a total than set one.

Essex Innings 1st Over

Kent open the bowling with Amjad Khan. Known to be somewhat wayward with is bowling Kent are however pleased with the first over as 5 runs are taken from it.

Essex Innings 2nd Over

Andrew Hall bowls Kent's second over and again 5 runs are taken including 1 No Ball, looks like Hall will have to work on his run up.

Essex Innings 3rd Over

Wicket! Khan gets Irani with the first ball of the over. Irani goes on the offensive and is caught by debutant Henderson (Who only landed in the UK this morning) for a duck. Again 5 runs come from the over.

Essex Innings 4th Over

Wicket! Petini is runout for 9. Maiden Over for Hall.

Essex Innings 5th Over

Henderson bowls his first over for Kent. 3 runs off the over. Essex seem to be struggling and will have to up the pace.

Essex Innings 6th Over

Darren Stevens and 3 runs come from an uneventful over. The travelling Essex fans are getting frustrated by the lack of progress made so far.

Essex Innings 7th Over

Henderson's second over is as uneventful as Steven's first. 3 runs off the over.

Essex Innings 8th Over

Darren Gough has had enough and Hits Stevens for a huge six. 8 runs off the over

Essex Innings 9th Over

Henderson's third over brings some fireworks as he clean bowls Middlebrook

Then Flower is caught by Key for a duck!

Essex Innings 10th Over

Key opts for Spin as Essex finally start to attack and James Tredwell bowls the 10th over. Key is left wondering if this was the right decision after the first ball as Gough its Tredwell for six! However progress is made as ten Doeschate later in the over by Key. 10 runs off the over.

So at the half way stage in the innings Kent are definatley in the driving seat.

Essex Innings 11th Over

Key changes his field and Henderson tries to temp Gough into being caught on the onside boundary. Dispite having 3 fielders placed there Gough manages to squeeze a four between them. 5 runs from the over

Essex Innings 12th Over

Tredwell bowls a tight over only 1 run from it.

Essex Innings 13th Over

Patel is on for his first ever twenty20 match and Gough welcomes him to the party with a four off his first ball.

Wicket! Kent are celebrating as Gough is trapped LBW! But No! Dispite being plumb the umpire gives it not out!

Essex Innings 14th Over

Tredwell bowls, 6 off the over

Essex Innings 15th Over

Patel's second, 4 runs come from it.

Essex Innings 16th Over

With Kent firmly in the driving seat, Key gives youngster Dexter the ball for the 16th over and excitement ensues.

A quick single is scrambled and there's a decent shout for a runout but its given safe.

Then Gough crazily gives away his wicket with another stupid runout.

Essex Innnings 17th Over

Khan returns again and Adams is run out. Essex are giving the match to Kent.

Wicket! Khan removes Bichel for a golden duck!

Khan's confidence is sky high but Bopara goes on the attack and hits a HUGE six!

Essex Innings 18th Over

Hall is bowling to Bopara and Bopara is on the attack, unfortunatley for him he is failing to connect. His resistance is futile however as Rob Key takes his 3rd Catch of the match off the last ball of the over.

Essex Innings 19th Over

Khan is bowling and 9 runs come from the over. Its way too late for Essex though.

Essex Innings Final Over

Hall bowls the last over and is Hit for 6 by Phillips. 9 runs come from the over

A very poor performance by Essex here, Kent will be confident they can win this with overs to spare.

Kent Innings 1st Over

Kent open their innings with Stevens and Dexter at the crease. Dexter has been performing well in Kent's C&G matches so it will be interesting to see if the youngster can take to Twenty20 too.

Bichel opens the bowling for Essex and conceeds just 2 runs, 1 being a wide.

Kent Innings 2nd Over

Gough takes the ball for the second over and Dexter gets his first boundary with a leg glance. Dexter then scrambles a quick legbye.

Stevens out! Amazing mix up he calls for a run that is never there and is sent back by Dexter. Hall takes Stevens place at the crease and clips a 4 off this legs. 9 runs from the over.

Kent Innings 3rd Over

Bichel bowls and again Dexter scores a boundary off his legs. Essex still dont have a fielder there. 7 runs from the over.

Kent innings 4th Over

Gough bowling. Dexter hits 2 fours, the first is a cut away and the second yet another leg glance, Kent are getting a lot of runs off their legs. 9 from the over.

Kent Innings 5th Over

Bichel bowls. Hall glances yet another 4! Finally Essex close the gap in the field but Hall responds by hitting the ball straight back past Bichel for another 4. 9 from the over.

Kent Innings 6th Over

Hall flicks it off his legs and it looks to be going for another 4 but Irani is there, 2 runs. Hall hits it back over the head of Gough for 4. 8 come from the over.

Kent Innings 7th Over

Bichel bowls a wide from the first ball. Dexter hits the next for six to bring up Kent's 50. Petini then saves a certain 4 with an amazing stop, no run. 8 from the over.

Kent Innings 8th Over

Dexter is confident now and tries to hit a big 4 but is almost caught. ten Doeschate drops it! A single is taken.

Hall tries to sweep the next ball and the Essex players are appealing for an LBW, not given. A good over for Essex, 2 off it.

Kent Innings 9th Over

Adams is given the ball and takes a wicket with his first ball. Hall is caught by flower.

Martin van Jaarsveld walks to the crease and promptly cuts his first ball for 4. He then repeats the shot for another. And Again! this time its stopped on the boundary and van Jaarsveld gets a single.

Adams bowls wide. The next ball with the field spread Dexter smashes a one bounce 4. He tries the same shot again but Essex are wise to him and hes out!

13 runs from the over. Can Essex stop Kent?

Kent Innings 10th Over

Bopara bowls and Martin van Jaarsveld drags the ball onto his own stumps and is out!

A good over for Essex, only 1 run from it.

Kent Innings 11th Over

Walker hits Adams for 6!

Adams then bowls a noball. 8 from the over.

Kent Innings 12th Over

Bopara is sloppy and bowls 3 wides. Walker mis-times a straight drive and is lucky not to be caught.

Kent Innings 13th Over

Kent need just 10 runs to win!

The pressure gets to Walker as he misses a sweep shot and is bowled

Tredwell comes to the crease and hits a 4, he edges the next ball for a single.

Kent Innings 14th Over

Bopara continues and Tredwell rushes a single. Kent need just 4 to win.
Key takes strike and the captain finishes the innings in style with a massive 6!
