Do you think Kents decision is correct following their points deduction this year? Personally I am disappointed (I live local to the ground) but I do see their point. Could this see the start of counties playing it save and reducing outground visits?

[font=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Kent County Cricket Club today confirmed that it will not staging county cricket at the Mote Cricket Club, Maidstone in 2006.

The decision not to return next season follows a detailed review of events at this year?s Festival when Kent were docked 8 points for producing a ?poor? pitch for their Championship match against Gloucestershire. The county has been playing at the Mote since 1859.

Commenting on the decision Kent?s Chief Executive Paul Millman said:

?We are working very closely with the Mote Cricket Club and Maidstone Council to put matters right. We have involved The ECB pitches consultant Chris Wood and have an agreed programme for the square. Once we are all confident the pitches are once again capable of staging four day cricket we will look to return."

"In June the Mote Club and Hillreed Homes launched ambitious plans for a multi-million sports facility on the ground. We are totally behind this exciting initiative and look forward to having a cricketing centre of excellence in the County town.?

Acting Chairman of the Mote Cricket Club Malcolm Bassett has responded to the decision by saying:

?I don?t think it is any intention on Kent?s part to make this a long-term absence. It is our long term aim to make the ground an attractive venue for first class cricket. We see this pitch problem as a short term difficulty and look forward to working with the ECB and Kent to get the square back into first class condition.?

I think it's the wrong decision.
They should get the pitch right before next season!

I think their point is they only play there for one week, This season as well as Canterbury, Kent visited Tunbridge Wells (1xCC 1xNL), Maidstone (1xCC 1xNL) and Beckenham (2xT/20). As they got penalised for the pitch at Maidstone I can understand their decision as it is Mote CC that are responsible for the pitch for the rest of the year.
