All I’ve heard is that the villain is based on a certain leader and now I wonder if it’ll ever see the light of the day here legally.

Yeah, I think that's more likely the reason Netflix pulled out rather than it being 'too gritty' for Indian audiences.

To be honest I was sold when I only knew it was a film called Monkey Man starring Dev Patel with Jordan Peele's backing. The more I learn the more I want to see.

Noticed the release date being mentioned as a placeholder now and unofficial rumours of it being delayed as much as possible.

Nothing official as of yet but like @wasteyouryouth mentions it’s not a coincidence that Netflix backed away from it.

Re-watched The Nice Guys last night, after seeing Ryan Gosling talking about how it's unlikely to ever get sequel, still very good film.

At the weekend I watched Delicatessen again, French post-apocalyptic comedy-horror. Still love it; first time I saw it on a VHS borrowed from the uni library with adverts cause it had been recorded off the TV. Probably going to rewatch some more Jean-Pierre Jeunet films.
