Legendary Lyrics!

Redemption Song, Bob Marley.

Old pirates, yes, they rob I;
Sold I to the merchant ships,
Minutes after they took I
From the bottomless pit.
But my hand was made strong
By the hand of the Almighty.
We forward in this generation
Triumphantly.
Won't you help to sing
These songs of freedom?
'Cause all I ever have:
Redemption songs,
Redemption songs.

Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery;
None but ourselves can free our minds.

Have no fear for atomic energy,
'Cause none of them can stop the time.
How long shall they kill our prophets,
While we stand aside and look? Ooh!
Some say it's just a part of it:
We've got to fulfill the Book.

Won't you help to sing
These songs of freedom?
'Cause all I ever have:
Redemption songs,
Redemption songs,
Redemption songs.
---
/Guitar break/
---
Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery;
None but ourselves can free our mind.
Wo! Have no fear for atomic energy,
'Cause none of them-a can-a stop-a the time.
How long shall they kill our prophets,
While we stand aside and look?
Yes, some say it's just a part of it:
We've got to fulfill the book.
Won't you have to sing
These songs of freedom? -
'Cause all I ever had:
Redemption songs -
All I ever had:
Redemption songs:
These songs of freedom,
Songs of freedom.

Any song written by Freedman, Dempsey or Gibbard basically.

I call a Ban! :p

Two Plain White Ts songs. Hey There Delilah is brilliant, and then 1,2,3,4.

Only one thing
To say
Those three words
For you

Nice and clever.

Also, the first English song lyrics I learnt by heart:

Oh baby baby
How was I supposed...to know
That something wasn't right yea.
Oh baby baby, I shouldn't have let
You go...
And now you're out of sight...

Show me
What you wanted to be...
Baby tell me,
Cause I need to know now
Just because...

My loneliness
Is killing me...
*And I....*
I must confess,
I still believe...
*Still believe*
When I'm not with you I lose my mind,
Give me a sign....

AND HIT ME BABY ONE MORE TIME.

Don't laugh :p It's quite awesome when done the rock-way, like by Marty Casey or Bowling for Soup....

Oh baby baby
How was I supposed
To know...

Oh baby baby,
I shouldn't have let
You go...

And I must confess,
That my loneliness,
Is killing me now...
Don't you know I still believe,
That you will be here,
Just give me a sign...

And hit me baby one more time!

ZoraxDoom added 6 Minutes and 42 Seconds later...

Linkin Park sometimes has real good stuff, like In the End, Numb, Bleed it Out. A lot of it my sound whiney and emo and such, but they do occasionally strike gold.

Also, My Way by Frank Sinatra. Every word of that is great.

Oh God, how can you mention Britney and an awesome singer like 'Ol' Blue Eyes' Sinatra in the same breath??

Not Britney, Martey Casey. Just listen to his rendition from Rockstar INXS. It's awesome. And apparently Bowling For Soup have a great version too.

Invincible by Muse springs to mind. I wouldn't necessarily think of them as writing meaningful lyrics but these are sublime.

Follow through
Make your dreams come true
Don't give up the fight
You will be alright
'Cause there's no one like you in the universe

Don't be afraid
What your mind conceives
You should make a stand
Stand up for what you believe
And tonight
We can truly say
Together we're invincible

During the struggle
They will pull us down
But please, please
Let's use this chance
To turn things around
And tonight
We can truly say
Together we're invincible

Do it on your own
It makes no difference to me
What you leave behind
What you choose to be
And whatever they say
Your souls unbreakable

During the struggle
They will pull us down
But please, please
Let's use this chance
To turn things around
And tonight
We can truly say
Together we're invincible
Together we're invincible

During the struggle
They will pull us down
Please, please
Let's use this chance
To turn things around
And tonight
We can truly say
Together we're invincible
Together we're invincible

Another Pink Floyd classic. These two are usually played together.

@SONG: Happiest Days of Our Lives

Well, when we grew up and went to school,
There were certain teachers,
Who would hurt the children in any way they could,
By pouring their derision,
Upon anything we did,
Exposing every weakness,
However carefully hidden by the kids.

But in (but in) the town it was well known,
When they got home at night,
Their fat and psychopathic wives would thrash them,
Within inches of their lives.

@SONG: Another Brick In The Wall, Part II

We don't need no education.
We don't need no thought control.
No dark sarcasm in the classroom.
Teacher, leave those kids alone.
Hey, Teacher, leave those kids alone!
All in all it's just another brick in the wall.
All in all you're just another brick in the wall.

We don't need no education.
We don't need no thought control.
No dark sarcasm in the classroom.
Teachers, leave those kids alone.
Hey, Teacher, leave those kids alone!
All in all you're just another brick in the wall.
All in all you're just another brick in the wall.

"The Great Escape"

Making my escape
Making my escape
Tell myself that
Everything's in shape
Everything's in shape
But me
How long can this take
How long can this take
Tell myself that
Everything is great
Everything is great
Well how'm I doing?

I gotta great idea
I'm gonna wait right here
I gotta great idea
I'm gonna wait right here
While everything is adding
Up, up, up
Everything is adding
Up, up, up

Breaking both my hands
Breaking both my hands
Telling me to
Take it like a man
Take it like a man
I can't
I don't understand
I don't understand
Please repeat whatever you just said
Nothing's making sense
Well how'm I doing?

I gotta great idea
I'm gonna wait right here
I gotta great idea
I'm gonna wait right here
While everything is adding
Up, up, up
Everything is adding
Up, up, up

They're breaking both my hands
They're breaking both my hands
And telling me to
Take it like a man
And take it like a man
Well f*ck that
I don't understand
Said I don't understand
So please repeat whatever you just said
'cause nothing's making sense
Well how'm I doing?

I gotta great idea
I'm gonna wait right here
I gotta great idea
I'm gonna wait right here
While everything is adding
Up, up, up
Everything is adding
Up, up, up

This at Leeds Festival = Immense. Praise be to 'We Are Scientists'!

Some great songs already mentioned like Voodoo Child, Comfortably Numb, and Time. Another Pink Floyd classic I'd like to mention is Brain Damage.

The lunatic is on the grass
The lunatic is on the grass
Remembering games and daisy chains and laughs
Got to keep the loonies on the path

The lunatic is in the hall
The lunatics are in my hall
The paper holds their folded faces to the floor
And every day the paper boy brings more

And if the dam breaks open many years too soon
And if there is no room upon the hill
And if your head explodes with dark forbodings too
Ill see you on the dark side of the moon

The lunatic is in my head
The lunatic is in my head
You raise the blade, you make the change
You re-arrange me till Im sane
You lock the door
And throw away the key
Theres someone in my head but its not me.

And if the cloud bursts, thunder in your ear
You shout and no one seems to hear
And if the band you're in starts playing different tunes
Ill see you on the dark side of the moon

Gone Shootin' by AC/DC, off my favorite album.

feel the pressure rise
hear the whistle blow
bought a ticket of her own accord
to I dunno
packed her heart in a travellin' bag
and never said bye bye
something missing in the neighbourhood
of her cryin' eyes
I stirred my coffee with the same spoon
knew her favourite tune
gone shootin'
my baby gone shootin'

wrapped herself around
like a second skin
backed her favourite nag
but she could never win
I took an offer in another town
she took another pill
she was runnin' in overdrive
a victim of overkill
she never made it passed the bedroom door
what was she aiming for
gone shootin'
she's gone
gone gone gone

gone shootin'
my baby's gone shootin'

Other favorites include Muk Gaye Ne by Junoon and Khamaj by Fuzon but not many will understand those lyrics, not even some Pakistanis.

I guess only Precamb will know, but the lyrics to "Innale", my word, it's unbelievable.

Edit: from Balletan, btw.

Til' Kingdom Come said:
Steal my heart and hold my tongue
I feel my time my time has come
Let me in unlock the door
I never felt this way before

And the wheels just keep on turning
The drummer begins to drum
I don't know which way I'm going
I don't know which way I've come

Hold my head inside your hands
I need someone who understands
I need someone someone who hears
For you I've waited all these years

For you I'd wait 'Til Kingdom Come
Until my day my day is done
and say you'll come and set me free
just say you'll wait you'll wait for me

In your tears and in your blood
In your fire and in your flood
I hear you laugh I heard you sing
I wouldn't change a single thing

And the wheels just keep on turning
The drummers begin to drum
I don't know which way I'm going
I don't know what I've become

For you I'd wait 'Til kingdom come
Until my days my days are done
Say you'll come and set me free
Just say you'll wait you'll wait for me

Just say you'll wait you'll wait for me
Just say you'll wait you'll wait for me

Coldplay :)
