Microsoft disconnects Xbox gamers

Yeah my flashed Xbox has been console banned meaning I can't play MW2 online until Friday when I buy a new Xbox and flash that one.
I'm not going to fake moral outrage. Hell, I don't give a toss if you chip your xbox. Personally I think games are massively overpriced and they bring it on themselves. But if they are going to keep doing this, it seems to me that it'll eventually cost you more in xbox consoles than in games ;)

BBC - Newsbeat - Xbox gamer 'gutted' after cut off

I knew this guy was a tosser when I read this bit:

"I've probably saved about ?600 and I've copied roughly 30 or 40 games. A lot of them I've downloaded or I've taken off friends that have downloaded themselves."

TBH, when I read this:

"My name's Raz, I'm 25 years old, I'm a massive Xbox gamer. I play every day after work and all day on the weekends.

and this:

It's like telling someone their dog's just died. It was pretty much like that for me. I love it, I love playing Xbox live. I play with my mates all the time. It's just a good laugh, we all sit there chatting, playing games. Now I don't know what to do.

I realised the guy is a total loser of life. Seriously, wtf, is your life so shite that you have to imerse yourself into a different game to forget about the real world? At 25, you should be out at the weekends, partying, having fun, heck, getting laid. Not sitting behind a TV pretending your Rambo :sarcasm

Serves all these loserish, nerds right who are generally the ones who pirate games (I personally wouldn't even know how to pirate a game, short of typing it into google!!!)

Piracy is everywhere, and people don't want to pay money when they can easily get it for free.

I guess it's a job well done by Microsoft, but they are fighting an impossible battle.

Not often I disagree with you Kev, but games aren't overpriced. It's not like devs make anything out of games. Don't know of any company which makes even remotely large profits.

With piracy it's got nowt to do with cost, even if it was cheaper, majority of pirates would still just pirate it, because they can, there's rarely any penalties to do so, and it's free.

Erm...Infinity Ward may make a bit of a profit, like, a massive one... (Or would it be Activision? Either way, they'll be laughing at the amount of money they have already!!)

Meh, I know it's morally and legallly wrong but I just don't have the money anymore to be forking out 40 quid for a game everyweek. MS get the ban hammer out for flashed Xbox's once every year (which is always before christmas the clever sods). Tbh i'm happy paying 120 quid a year for an Xbox rather than 120 quid a month for just 3 games.

That's a shite argument Matt. TBH, I don't have ?35 to spend on petrol every 10-14 days. Doesn't mean I just pull up in petrol stations, fill my car up and drive off. The money argument is a pretty poor excuse, end of the day the only reason people do it, is because it is easy to get away.

Stealing is stealing. I can't afford 3 ps3 games a month so I do not buy 3 games a month.

I am sure there is an equilivant to GameFly in the UK. I pay $10 a month and can rent unlimited games that are delivered through the mail.

MS should just cut the middleman out and have a game subscription service, a bit like their Zune Pass model. If these pirates are still willing to actually pay for Xbox Live then clearly there would be an amount of them who would actually pay a reasonable amount on a game rental service (the more you pay the more games you can have at once).

Or just go back to cartridges.

That's the most stereotyped piece of ████ I've ever read. I'm not close to 25, but seriously, let people live their own lives. If they make the choice to be a gamer and they entertain themselves with that, what's it to you? Just because you like thinking of yourself as the ultimate tool doesn't mean that other people should be forced to do what you like or think is 'acceptable'.

He could be doing plenty of worse things other than just playing games, I don't know what your problem is or what you have against this guy but in my opinion you've made a dick out of yourself. By making this post it's probably going to make me also seem like a loser nerd who's standing up for this guy, even though I personally don't consider myself in that category, but really that's an idiotic post.

Sorry, i forgot there is no money in gaming. Perhaps thats why Electronic Arts paid $275Million for a company that makes games for facebook. They obviously don't see a profitable model there do they?

Small developers might not make a lot of money, but there is plenty of money to be made in the gaming industry. Sure companies at present might be claiming poverty but that's temporary.

Why does it cost more to buy a game for a console than it does on a PC? Because they know that they can get away with charging more.

I'm sure it costs a lot of money to develop some games, I'm sure it costs a lot of money to buy licences for others. But that is certainly not the case for all games, little companies with pissant little games charge just the same as a game that has cost way more to make. It costs a lot of money to make Movies, but you don't pay nearly ?50 to buy the latest Hollywood blockbuster on DVD do you?

Personally I do think it comes down to costs in a lot of cases. If people are happy to shell out ?150 every now and then to buy a new console that is the same as they already have, then go to the effort of chipping it,, then go to the effort of either downloading an ISO or buying it off some bloke who you see down the market on a Saturday (or wherever), then why would they not spend that money on buying reasonably priced games and save the hassle? If you are an occasional gamer and buy the odd game here and there, then perhaps ?40 isn't too much, but there is a large market out there who go through games almost like rental movies. They are interested in playing a game for a few weeks then move on. Either cheaper games or some sort of subscription based service with access to a large number of games on demand has to be the way to go. The music industry is just about starting to wake up to this, the games industry needs to too.

Think of me as a tool then, not too fussed. Anyone who seems that attached to a piece of plastic with some wires inside, when there is a whole world out there where he could be doing something with his life instead of sitting behind the TV living some sort of fake life.

I don't have any time for these gamers who make it their life to be able to press buttons quicker then someone else. Get out there in the real world. Socialise with real people face to face, you don't have to live some new life in the virtual world. Maybe, this will be a good thing and actually let these nerds get out there and get some fresh air :sarcasm
