MMA/UFC Thread

I don't. Had a class night when 99 was on, got the lads round, watched it then Cotto-Clottey. Wanted Silva to win but oh well, don't think he'll do well at middle.

TUF has been good, I hope Winner wins, he trains at the gym In Leicester. Johnson has wound me up, for the majority of the series I thought he was sound but last night when I was watching on setanta (shocked me that it was on!) he pissed me off.

Doesn't look like the UFC is coming to the UK again this year which is a shame as there will be a whole bunch of us wanting to go. My attempt to get good cardio for this is going well, loving getting back to skipping haha,2 runs a day is painful though. Need to be able do the splits, can get 1 of my legs behind my head but no splits. Can't train grappling either without mates which is crap.

100's looking alright :D Mir KO1 Brock the twatfaced spunk guzzler Lesnar.

Leicester Fox added 3 Minutes and 21 Seconds later...

Could see some serious competition in the HW division soon. Affliction's going down the pan and Fedor could finally be signed by the UFC, Cro Cop's back, Overeem's apparently on his way to the UFC as well + the TUF HW series coming soon. Could finally be some real competition in the HW division.
I would love Fedor in the UFC but can't see Affliction going anywhere if Golden Boy and Trump really believe in it.

Fedor's last 2 wins don't seem impressive now haha.

Not coming back to the UK in 09? I read that the UFC would be returning to the UK for 2 more events in 2009. Here's the article:

A new report from the U.K. based Fighter's Only magazine states that the UFC will be returning to the United Kingdom two more times late in 2009.

Per the report, "October will probably see the promotion return to Manchester - which hosted UFC 70: Nations Collide - and in November the show will head north to Newcastle, scene of UFC 80: Rapid Fire."

The report also states the October event could possibly take place in Liverpool, which is 30 miles from Manchester. Liverpool also is home to the vaunted Wolfslair, where Michael Bisping, Quinton "Rampage" Jackson and more train. Liverpool also "has produced more UK UFC fighters than any other place in Britain."

There are no indications as to the exact dates or event numbers, though that will likely develop over the next couple of months.

99 was a quality event. Started off awesomely with Hardy vs Davis which was a quality fight, nice to see Hardy get the win as well, his mindgames worked brilliantly. The Uno-Fisher fight was pretty dull and boring, they just neutralised eachothers styles, and I thought Uno was the better and more dominant fighter and was amazed to see Fisher get a unanimous decision victory. Swick's TKO of Saunders was quality as well, really lived up to the 'quick' nickname, such brilliant hands.

Cro Cop looked decent as well. A shame that it ended with the eye poke that wasn't seen by the Ref, but he would have finished Al-Turk off anyway I think. Dana's pissed at him as well, having just agreed a 3 fight deal over the phone, Cro Cop only signed a 1 fight deal and has just buggered off to DREAM to take on Siala "Mighty Mo" Siliga. No chance of ever seeing Cro Cop in the UFC again.

The Velasquez-Kongo fight was quality. Kongo had Cain rocked big time early in the 1st and 2nd rounds, but then after that Cain just ran riot, was an immense display of ground domination. His ground and pound didnt' seem to really be hurting Kongo, so there wasn't ever really a chance of him getting a TKO but it was a clear domination. He'd get taken out by a decent striker with good takedown defence though, he was rocked heavily by Kongo on 2 occassions.

Then the Main Event which was a brilliant fight. A few people were contesting the judges decision to give the fight to Rich, but I had Franklin down as the winner tbh. Was an excellent fight. Read that Wandy had to cut 12 or 16 pounds on the day of the weigh in as well, must have been serious work that, 12 pounds is a hell of alot of weight to drop!

As for Affliction. Have a read of this:

Affliction MMA is Done.

Tom Atencio will be making an announcement soon.

A third show will probably happen to fulfill Affliction Entertainments larger contract obligations unless a deal with Zuffa can be arranged to offset some of the costs while Affliction pays off their contract obligations via "sponsorships"...

You could hear in Tom's voice after the event - the realization that:

Everyone is making money here (Trump, Golden Boy, the fighters, etc...) at the expense of Affliction losing millions.

With Affliction footing virtually the entire bill and after PPV distributor: Showtime and Promoter Golden Boy taking their cut - Affliction is left with less than $13 per PPV buy to cover expenses.

Making the initial estimate of 250,000 buys not even close to what will be needed to break even.

Will be gone soon I reckon. They're making MASSIVE losses.

One more thing. LOL @ Tim Sylvia. What a joke of a man.

Lol $13 per PPV, shocking when you do small numbers. Can't remember where I was told they wouldn't be coming back but I hope I am wrong and it looks like I am.

Adrenaline III Bragging Rights Results, Tim Sylvia vs Ray Mercer video

Here's the video of Sylvia being pwned as well. I LOL'd so hard when I read about this 'fight' on the MMA Torch app on my iPhone. This loss has meant he's off the Affliction Trilogy card as well. :laugh Nice job Tim! Another ex-UFC heavyweight champion got owned as well recently. Arlovski pwned by Brett Rogers in 22 seconds. Quality heavyweight division the UFC have got!

I'm not sure I want to venture into Liverpool just to watch a UFC. Seriously lol. I've heard so much from United fans :D Apparently the nightlife is class actually and will be good to go out after so I may brave it.

Sylvia is stupid. Don't stand with a boxer. End of.

Not true of course.

Hardy at 99 you could tell had Roach with him. He outboxed the boxer. However you don't stand with a heavyweight boxer who's actually good, even if he is 48 this is a man who lost a debatable decision to Lennox Lewis. End of.

Sylvia mutually agreed to keep the fight standing up, as it was changed to an MMA rules match very late in the piece as they couldn't get the boxing rules match authorised, so just cunningly called it an MMA match so it could go ahead. Sylvia was never going to take the fight to the ground, and deservedly got pwned and had his Affliction payout taken away from him. What a twat.

TUF Finale on Saturday night as well :D Looking forward to that. Hopefully Wilks the 'arrogant prick' will pound Damarques' face into the mat. Can't see it happening though, Damarques is a superior fighter to Wilks in both stand-up and BJJ so that'll be a Damarques win. As for the other final, I'm backing Pearson. I've liked him from the start and reckon he could just pull off a decision win against Winner. Should be an excellent fight though. Dollar vs Dent is on the card as well, and I'm backing Dent for that fight due to his experience. Then Lester vs Osipczak which is a fight that I can see Nick winning, although if Frank pulls off a win he'll definitely get at least 1 UFC fight I imagine, as Dana seems to be a fan of his passion and detirmination. His skills are pretty ropy, but if he can train hard and improve he could be a bloody good fighter, same with Dollar.

Then there's Guida-Sanchez, which I can see going the way of Sanchez. I respect Guida alot, he's got tremendous cardio, but I can see Sanchez's skills pulling him through. Lytle vs Burns will probably be a close fight but I can see Lytle winning by decision. The final main card fight is Stevenson vs Diaz, which should be another close fight. If Diaz keeps the fight standing up, then Stevenson will batter him, but if he gets it down to the ground then he could pull off a submission win. I'm going to back Stevenson for this one though.

That was stupid fom Sylvia.

I think Datwat could get beat actually. Got to back Winner.

Lester is awful. Ignores everything he's told and just swings wildly.

Diaz wins for me.

Yeh Lester is awful atm, but you've got to applaud the dude's passion. Not many guys would be able to cope with 4 fights in 34 days, especially considering the brutality of 1 of them, having his teeth knocked out and being battered by Wilks. To have recieved such a beating to then go on and beat a decent fighter like Faulkner (albeit thanks to Faulkner's cardio letting him down) and then to get back into the octagon with dude that gave you a serious beating shows serious balls and serious guts. If he can work his bollocks off and improve his stand up and ground skills then he could definitely make a decent career for himself, Dana certainly seems to respect him!

True on the bravery front, i have a veneer and I have always been scared shitless it'll break in my mouthguard. He can certainly take punches, some of the stuff he took I'm amazed he lasted till the third round. Don't see him making it into the UFC though, maybe as an undercard fighter because he offers good fights. Balls he has got too.

LOL. Gotta love the Buffer.

My predictions were all on the button bar the Wilks-Damarques fight. What an event. Started off a little slow but once it got going it really got going. The final 3 fights were excellent. James Wilks was superb against Johnson, simply dominated him, I'm sure Dana would have been impressed with that one, quality fight. Then Lytle and Burns was brilliant as well with Lytle deserving the win. Guida-Sanchez oh my god, what a friggin fight. The first round was one of the best rounds I've seen in ages, how Clay survived that onslaught from Sanchez is beyond me. Awesome fight. Nice to see the UK guys coming out on top as well, all 3 fights with a brit involved ended with a Brit win which was nice.

What an event, UFC 100 next. Bring it on, hopefully Lesnar with his stupid little beard will get owned by Mir.

I thought Johnson was overrated. Having said that Wilks was just outstanding. Quality fighter, least there was 1 winner from Leicester even though he's really a bit of a yank now :p Winners striking wasn't great, Pearson was much better and Winner had to tie him up. Both seriously need to work on takedowns.

Agree on the Lesnar front. I would love to see Fedor get one of those massive arms in an armbar. :D
