PlanetCricket Basketball XV - Discussions and Results

Welcome to the first ever season of the PlanetCricket XV. We shall use this thread for the discussion and results of the 2008-09 NBA season which we shall embark on together in a quest to become the best team in the NBA.

The PCXV will be playing in the Western Conference, Northwest Division to be more precise. We will be in the same division as the Portland Blazers, Utah Jazz, Denver Nuggets and the Seattle Sonics. This, of course, will not affect the regular season too much as there will be 29 games in the season, which means we will get to play every team once.

The playoffs will not be the regular best of 7/7/7/7 games, instead it will be 5/5/5/7.

The positions in basketball are Point Guard, Shooting Guard, Small Forward, Power Forward, Center. Wikipedia has a pretty good description of what their roles are.

Sept 6: New York Knicks at PCXV

The season kicked off with a nerve wracking game for the PCXV as they clinched their first game by a solitary point. The starting line up of Barrow, Manning, Amir, Rawlings and Pepper put their work in as they brought the team close to victory leaving it for Dunk to put them over the top. Coach Stephen Collins' inexperience was glaring as he toiled his starters for more than 36 minutes each, barely putting any faith in his bench. With the defensive duo of Frye and Curry sharing 10 blocks between them, the Knicks took full advantage of this rookie mistake. The whole starting line up made major contributions with Pepper top scoring.

After gaining an initial one point lead after the first period, the PCXV lagged behind for most of the rest of the game only to have Fred Dunk come off the bench and rally the team with his fine low-post moves in the final minutes of the game. Amir, who had been woeful with his shooting all game, found a use of his slashing type game by drawing fouls and spotting Dunk for all of his baskets. The PCXV were able to gain a one point lead despite Marbury's great form with only 7 seconds left thanks to a timely 3 pointer by Mehta, but it was Barrow's lone steal that sealed the deal for his team.

I got the most points . I think I did well. It was a seriously close game.

Must work on players' durability so the bench is utilized more often. Almost all of the Knicks players had their time on the court.
