Post of the Week/Month?

Well I may well get ridiculed by suggesting this but i'll go ahead and do it anyway.

On some other sites that I visit and am a member of, they have a 'Post of the Week' feature and it seems to work very succesfully. In my opinion, the rep system is no longer used to approve or disapprove with teh quality of a post and is now used as a means of scoring brownie points with other members and so on and so forth. I'm not suggesting that we remove the rep system btu I just think that we should have an award for the better posts out there. For example, a user who spends a good 10 minutes on a quality post deserves more than a rep point does he not? Maybe a custom title under his username which says 'post of the week' and a vcash bonus or something similar?

Like the idea, but to be honest how do you expect to judge, ad after a few months it will get really boring and no-one would bother about it.

I'd be more than happy to judge and as I say, it's only a suggestion. It's just that in my opinion, the really good posts aren't being rewarded as they should. It would also encourage others to try and put some quality in their posts.

The further elaborate on the judging scheme, we could make a thread with all teh nominees and users could post a post that they think should be nominated. Of course, users wouldn't be able to nominate their own posts though.

I agree, as many people point out, the rep system has become prttey much ineffective of late as many people seem to use it as a means of having a laugh and joke or in some cases, to abuse someone. Many people don't even relate the rep point to the actual post which is what the rep system is supposed to be about.

There are so many thousands of posts made everyday, and at least seven times that every week. Do you expect that you could accurately and without bias judge something to be post of the week? I think it would be terribly difficult.

That said, I'm neutral about this idea.

already admins/mods are burdened with problems with PCkt.don't think they have time to spend to go through thousands of posts to pick relative winners.

however, if it can be done, I am cool with it. :cool:

We should have some sections from which we select the post fo the week...Like from cricket 07 and BLIC 2007 forums!

So difficult task, really u will feel bore after some time, its better to spend some time in some other work which is good for u

Your probably right, it would be much more manageable.

As for the poster who said that it would take too much effort to judge them all, I disagree. As long as only one nomination per member is allowed or something similar, it would lead to it being easier to judge. Still, if it ever gets put into practice then it's entirely up to the mods to be honest.

Nah, we dont really need this feature. Just continue quality posting and be proud of your posts. You dont need to be publicly recognised.

Too much effort to read through loads of posts to find the best.

Its an interesting idea, but one that I think would need a little trial.
The easiest way (for the user at least, i wouldn't want to be the admin who implements it!) would just be to have a button, maybe next to rep this post for nominate post of the month, then have a select group of judges that change from month to month...meh, I dunno what I'm on about :cool:

isnt there a post of the year? on the matter of reps getting abused i agree but what can we do about it we know all the people who deserve good reps
