Guys....earlier i had DX9 April Edition installed.

For some reason....i wanted to uninstall it.

So i used one of those programs which use Windows XP CD to uninstall DX9 and install DX8.1 from the CD.

All well and done till here.

Now....i want to install DX9 but its not installing.

It Setup completes as it should be successfully, but in the system information screen it still shows DX8.1

I've even tried installing DX9 in Safe Mode but still no use.

Can anybody help?

This seems to be a problem with DirectX 9.0c on some winXP installations. I had the same problem in going from DirectX 9.0b to 9.0c. I tried using a dx uninstaller to revert to 8.1, and still couldn't install 9.0c. You'd be better off just installing 9.0b (it is better than 8.1 for sure!).

But the thing is tht, i never had any problems with DX9c on my pc.

its just tht after using dx uninstaller, i'm not able to install dx9c.

EDIT: Hi, well i had used a software named "DirectX Happy Uninstall" to uninstall DX9 previously.

I just checked the software, and it had an option for installing DX9c. I used tht and now DX9c is installed on my PC.

I recommend u to do the same if u can.

Thnx for the support bro.;)

Why did you need to download directX 9.0c ? It must have shipped with the game.

And try what tutsi has recommended, I haven't gotten around to trying that yet, since the computer is working like a dream just now, and I don't wanna mess anything up!

Update: I tried DirectX Happy Uninstall and it is a wonderful software! It painlessly reverted my directX 9.0b installation to version 8.1 from my Windows CD (XP professional SP2 disks work fine, inspite of a warning message) and then installed DirectX 9.0c. The whole process took around 15 minutes. Hooray!

Note though: You must buy the software for US$ 12.95 (not much, since it is billed to be the world's only safe directX remover) since the shareware version won't allow you to revert to 8.1 from the Windows CD, and 9.0b users then won't be able to upgrade to 9.0c

Note: I am pinning this topic, since many people have got this problem, and it should help them to upgrade directX.

I have a question.Why do u people want to uninstall Directx 9.0c?
Silly man. Many people worldwide are facing problems in upgrading from DirectX 9.0b to 9.0c, which is required by all newer games (even Cricket coach requires it:eek: ). So, all we want to do, and have succeeded in doing, is to rollback 9.0b to 8.1, and then install 9.0c. DirectX Happy Uninstall is a software that enables you to do so.

Only in this thread, Tutsipoppy, Mwaugh and myself. Seems to be an issue with some *original* versions of XP professional SP 2, so no wonder you're not affected :)
