PS3 Average Stats are rubbish, but so are some people - a story

Online Cricket Games Owned
Well the other day, I had a bit of a cold, feeling bored and was getting sick of not being able to get a match - I have the PS3 version.

So I was talking to a guy I've played a few good games with and we were talking about the stats and what a joke some of the Avge/Strike-rate/Bowling Avge figures were.

So after talking more, I realised that I'd never played an online test match, so we decided to make a bit of a statement, and glitch (obviously glitch too) one of the test stats - and at least we didn't touch the official 'Ashes' stats, just the normal test match.

Anyway, long story short, put up a batting avge of 169 (69 tehehe) in about 10mins, then went back to normal gaming.... and note I didn't do anything super crazy like make it an average of 1000.

So having heard rumours about stats resetting, or at least average stats having a game limit, I didn't see this as a lame way to make myself look better than I am..... as I said, it was just a combination of boredom and wanting to make a point.

So much to my amusement, I start getting funny messages from a guy called "Chunnster", calling me out, eluding that I was not the brightest because my Rank1 batting average stat looked so dodgy (169 average, with total 169 runs..... not a real stat really?), and challenging me to a test match.

Initially I was polite, felt a bit bad for upsetting this guy so much, and agreed that when time permitting, I'd give him a test match (and explained why .... but was concerned how long it would take.... his response, childish carry on "it won't take long, I'm the best" etc).

Anyway, I figured I'd check out his name on this site, and bugger me if he isn't labeled as a quitter and bad-sport, has an account on here banned, and I then also find out first hand he's quit on 2 of my PSN friends, and refuses to play another guy after quitting on him (small world).

So in summary, I'm gonna write him later today, advise him that I won't ever be playing him and risk wasting my time (not too mention I reckon he's the type of guy who would send you stupid msgs throughout the game anyway), and tell him to be patient and he may get his stats back when they reset or the game limit is increased.

So why am I sharing all this? Well partly since my name is up there, and the serious PS3 cricket players seem to converge here, I wanted to clear the air as to why (just in case you run into me in future and are worried I'm a quitter - never quit yet, and always play within spirit of the game).... and also because the little saga amused me a bit and thought since a few have had experience with this guy, they might like to hear more of his antics. I mean if it wasn't cricket, the guy would probably be quite amusing to game with.... well if I could hunt him with my M1A1 Carbine I mean (sigh)

You are right those average stats and strike rates etc. are Meaningless. I don't normally look at those stats. PC stats are even worst. There are players who have like 10,000 runs in ODIs. It does not mean anything, it does not show how many matches they have played. ODIs can be from 5 to 50 overs, the player who plays 50 over matches is likely to score more runs than the player who only plays 5 over matches. Scoring more runs does not mean he is better than the other player. I have never played an ODI more than 5 overs because of the high quitting rate in the game.

The only meaningful stat is your ranking in different formats of the game, I know it is on Xbox 360 not sure whether PS3 has this stat (I could not see this stat on PC version, can someone else correct me on this?)

The problem with you getting nasty messages from someone else is nothing new, once you get to the top the accusations start. I am currently number 1 player in the world on Xbox 360 and I get abusive messages (Many racist) everyday or people wanting a match with me, so they can show me. Once they start losing they disappear in no time. Some will try to bring you down by other means.

I have learned to ignore them and just have fun; I can not be bothered by those comments.

.

You hit the nail right on the head. This is just what is happening in the PC version of the game.

^ oh Cmon, As long as we treat a game like a game all is cool. Remember we ain't out on a war , nor are we gonna get medals for winning games by being over competitive.

Hopefully they put in a requirement of 25 games played in order to appear on the averages leaderboards

Yeah playing CoD (and putting way too much time in I might add), I'm used to fan-mail. I'm 35 years old, and there's not much anyone could say to annoy me.
In fact some of em really make me laugh, and to be honest, with my polite way of replying to some of the palookas I meet (sometimes just to get another response), I usually end up getting apologies for them being over-emotional lol.

Back to point, I expected a few messages when I did it, and was prepared to reply explaining to any that did... as I said, it's an extremely obvious 'cheat' - but in saying that, it would only take someone with a new account, and a spare 20mins, to beat it.... but this guy must have sent like 20msgs in the space it took me to reply to the first one he sent. Never experienced anything like it hehe

As for the other comments, totally agree on the game limit requirement, just lucky I play for the enjoyment of the game and stats are just something 'interesting' to note is all. But I will admit it's because the ODI stats cover all the 5,10,25,50 over games, I find them misleading and not something I'd 'watch'.... hence I decided to mostly play just 20/20 matches.

Anyway, if the new patch doesn't do something about the quitters, and actually change their behaviour (doubt it will), 25 games may be a little high..... unless all games count when you get someone quit on you. But even then, it would still take me some time to get 25 batting innings in to achieve an average lol (I generally field first).

I think the PC version is missing the ranking system (Based on the percentage of matches you win and lose) and true skill factor (Based on you skills in batting, bowling, fielding etc).

I have no idea why Codemasters and Transmission have left the only meaninful stats. out for the PC version.

With the Xbox version my aim was to get to be ranked number 1, luckily I have achieved this ranking. With the ranking system there is always a some sort of motivation for you to play the game. I don't know if I would been motivated to get 10,000 runs! I could be smashing very weak opponents, it would not be fun at all. As I said getting more runs and wickets does not mean you are the best, where as the ranking system does provide some evidence that you are very good at this game.

This is one of the reason why I say the console version is better than PC version.

I played this guy once. Like you, sent me 10 messages before I could reply to the first one. Had me 19/3 in a test and don't know what happened - whether he quit or disconnected (my connection's pretty solid and I know it didn't drop). After which he barraged me with silly messages and even after repeated messages back from me (which is quite painful for me really as I find it very cumbersome typing out messages using the PS3 controller) rather amusingly having to say "I didn't quit", continued to send some juvenile junk my way.

Stats or no stats, at this time the only way to get a decent game seems to be to play people you know.

Chunnster is a joke and everone who plays on PS3 knows it.

ThandaMilk, I am free from 5 PM Central time today till the night. Hopefully we can get our first game in.

chunnster is really a joke thumbs up for that
i played with him a few times when i got the game on release
he would boast off his skills
i lost to him 1 or 2 times
and in 1 match i got him 0/2 and he quit the game blaming me of creating lag lol

he only plays against weak opponents to get his stats

Yea he refuses to play Fazzy, he kicks him whenever he joins.

Fazzy has climbed the ODI ranks faster than Usain Bolt runs the 100.

Chunnster is the biggest quitter on ps3 by far.

Anyone ever play Sir_strokealot? I have heard bad things about him as well, but never actually played him.

Also anyone played ShaunyladUK or something similar?

Damn must be a small community... but yeah I had sir-StrokeAlot quit on me a long time ago (haven't run into him since) .... he was the 7th to quit on me from when i started keeping lists, and never replied to messages asking what happened. People who reply to me don't get on my list, only if they don't explain themselves to my polite enquiry do I mark them as quitters..... and even then if they quit in first 1-3 overs I generally won't bother either since they didn't really waste my time.

But anyway, lets not make this thread a big flame-fest about quitters/bad sports.... I was originally just trying to make it public why I was Rank1 on the PS3 Test Batting Avge so as not to sully my name too badly, and to make a public statement about the stats.

I know the patch is coming, but I'm yet to actually see any comments about the average stats and whether there will be any change in the way they are calculated (though also good chance I may have missed some detail).

When the update rolls out and quitters get highlighted, all Chunnster will do is kick out good players and keep playing bad players for his stats. I have played lot of Gears of War online and I know stats hoggers like him. All they care about are the stats instead of playing against good opponent. He plays with his buddies now who don't quit and don't play good enough.
Once he kicked me out 2-3 times I messaged him why. His reply was that I will quit. I replied that I promise I'll make him quit

I have played him a few times, his a good player, he beat me in the first few games i played, but in my last match with him he quit when he was 4 down for 20odd runs, and sent me some silly message.

As far as I know he only plays 20/20's and is something like 5th in the leading runs.
