If you're into strategy/simulation, Banished comes to mind. It's surreal how much cool this game is given that it's developed by a single person.

If you like story rich and point and click games where your choices affect the gameplay, then Life is Strange should be the one. Episode one is free to play. If you like it, you can buy the whole game.

Great game, I have it on PS4 and although it didn't strike me at first I never regretted buying it when I did.

Dishonored 1 and 2 or Prey. They have shooting elements but they game is open enough that you can be stealthy instead.

Or XCom 2

Edit - noted the no gore. Might discount Dishonored if you think throwing people's arms or heads as a distraction technique is gorey.
