Ravinder Jadeja & Yusuf Pathan

Yeah, McDonald was a slightly harsh choice. I always thought he got unfair flak from the Aussie fans. He's not a particularly exceptional player in any discipline, but he's more than handy, and a very good holding bowler. The Aussies on here don't seem to rate the guy highly though, so thought I'd include him. The others are all pretty poor bowlers tbh. Krejza might have taken a heap of wickets against India, but it was the flukiest big-haul of wickets I've ever seen.

Don't know why the Pattinson selection gets so much bad press, he bowled pretty reasonably in that match as well, better than a lot of the others.

Also you can't have your players being tired from too much IPL and then have Jadeja being undercooked because he didn't play.

Yusuf Pathan = BIG LOOSER!!! Yusuf Pathan can't bat for life. he has been given many opportunities and he has tried to take advantages of them but he just can't because his batting skill is just 0. I don't know why he is in the team. in 98% of the matches, Harbhajan scores more runs than him. Usually, even the failure batsmen score over 40 runs when the whole team is batting good. but Yusuf is a batsman who never scores even if the team bats good or bats pathetically. Yusuf is a big waste of a batting spot in the Indian team. Jadeja isn't too bad but he is just not ready to play in the international side right now. he has the capability to play but not right now. He can bowl pretty good most of the time but when he starts to get smacked by the batsmen, he looses confidence and isn't able to get it back. he can play some big shots as we saw him in the earlier series. he can be a destructive all rounder but he just needs more practice. but Yusuf Pathan, if the selectors ever read fans' comments then please remove that THING from the team.

until and unless you improve your cricketing infrastructure you can't curse a player.

guys, yusuf pathan has some serious talent,y is it dat he performs so well under gambhir and warne??and the same is not ther wen dhoni or raina are captain??u cannot expect a number 7 batsmen to b consistent,he wil hardly get any chance to bat on flat tracks as the top order of india is strong, and wen he gets a chance to bat early, its only on bad wickets wen the top order falls early,he shud b given a gud chance to bowl his useful offspin and he shud b allowed to play his natural game wen he bats, dhoni doesnt want yusuf in the team, cause he is a threat to suresh raina, even wen he gets him to bowl he doesnt get the best of field settings and he is not instructed to bowl a wicket taking line.its not as simple as it luks,u shud hav a lot of cricket knowledge to understand it,luk at his bowling record under gambhir and shane warne,he has taken crucial wickets at crucial times, under gambhir,he has bowled well even in 50 overs matches.IF THIS GUY CAN SCORE A CENTURY ON A BOUNCY SOUTHAFRICAN WICKET AGAINST STEYN,MORKEL,TSOTSOBE AND BOTHA WHO WER ALL IN PRIME FORM ,THEN HE HAS SUM SPECIAL TALENT,NO OTHER INDIAN BATSMAN WAS COMFORTABLE AGAINST THEM,THEY WERENT EVEN ABLE TO DEFEND THEM PROPERLY ,coz some cricketers play years of cricket but are not able to dominate or even b comfortable against such a wonderful bowling attack.Wen dhoni sends him up the order at times, its not to giv him an opportunity, but its wid clear instructions to go after the bowling, and he is not god,he cannot go after the bowling and keep hitting sixes all the time.a hard hitter takes a lot of time to mature, even sehwag went from the same phase as yusuf,he got sourav ganguly`s support and luk at what he is today.Just give him an opportunity for 30 odd matches in a row and giv him the confidence and security, and just c the results, hope india develops yusuf the same way australia developed symonds.

@Karan You believe it or not but "full stop" exist :p . At the moment that is one massive sentence separated by commas. Its a pain to read it:facepalm. I read the bold part of the post only.

I think we need to play Pathan. He can play quick 30's or 40's and sometimes he would win a match or two singlehandedly. Add a few wickets or economical overs to that and you got a perfect number 7 for ODI.

What must be noted is that since the Indian cricket team has a strong and long batting line-up and most of the time, the top-order succeeds- I don't see why we should have an in-complete batsman/bowler. I'd rather have a full-fledged specialist instead.

Most of the top-order can also bowl when needed and besides, he might be taken to the cleaners more often than not, if you throw a couple extra overs towards him.

*Openers- Sehwag and Tendulkar
*Middle order- Gambhir, Kholi, Yuvraj
*Lower order- Raina and Dhoni
*Tail- Harbajan, Zaheer, x, x

Now, I don't see how Pathan fits in that line-up. If you consider Raina 's solidity with the bat(WC/Past innings) with an aided ability to toss the ball up when necessary- it makes it all the more difficult. The two spots (x) are for two pacers or one pacer and specialist spinner.

those two x x should be Ashwin and a quickie. LIke Varon Aaron or Ishant Sharma. Would like to see RP Singh back

If Praveen could be a little bit more consistent with the bat then Yusuf wont fit in the squad.
Perfect Indian XI

Openers: Sachin and Sehwag
Middle Order: Gambhir,Kohli,Yuvraj,Raina, Dhoni
Tail: Bhajji,Ashwin,Praveen,Zaheer.

TBH, thats not a bad tail at all. None of them is a mug with bat. Bhajji and Praveen can play cameo's, Ashwin got nice technique. I would love to see him bat in Test match where he would have a lot of time. Then we have Zaheer who can hit a few too.

I don't think batting Praveen at #8/#9 makes him the next Irfan. Angry's XI has more than enough batting in it to last 50 overs, so I don't really think Praveen would be needed much with bat.

I didnt said he should be next Irfan but whats wrong with hitting a few big sixes down the order like Brett Lee does;)

Ravindra Jadeja never really deserved his place in the ODI side especially as an allrounder. He hardly batted good.

Yusuf Pathan hasn't been enough opportunities. I think he should be given chance to bat higher in the batting order as he has time and ample deliveries to construct his innings and showcase his talent.

Yusuf generally bats at 7 and comes in such a situation when he has no choice but to hit out or get out. This doesn't let him perform to his potential.
