England were overjoyed when they regained the Ashes in 2005 (coming back from 2-0 down in the series to win) but since then life has been fairly miserable. Test series losses against Pakistan away, India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan home and the Ashes lost again to Australia were compounded by ODI series losses against the same teams. They went out in the Super Eight of the World Cup with the international debut performances of Chris Tremlett the only bright spot of the competition for them.
