Security on CD

I have also bought the game.
I have a Dell Dimension. My wife has (a very slightly different) Dell Dimension. The game does not work due to the "emulation software detected" issue on my computer, but works absolutely fine on her computer!

How can I help Codemasters fix their game? i.e. how should I contact them? It is really infuriating that they say I have "emulation software" on my PC but don't tell me what they think I have... in any case I don't!

You don't have any of the following software installed do you?
* Fantom CD Emulator
* Alcohol 120%
* Nero Image Drive
* Phantom CD
* Clone CD
* Ark Virtual Drive
* Veritas DLA
* Daemon Tools

I've just been looking for that thread. Maybe a better thread name would have been helpful.
This is the thread called 'Help'.

Seems like you are an expert in these kind of problems Cowburn :p.

My point was that a threadtitle like "help" is no good. I couldnt remember what it was called and "help" does not standout as describing it when you are looking for it.

This is a longshot but I don't suppose you have a EPSON printer connected do you?
I've seen similar cases where that has been the cause and the person has just unconnected the printer and uninstalled the drivers.

Thanks for your help. I did have Nero 6 installed which is a bunch of Nero programs that may have included this. However I uninstalled everything Nero related and am still getting the error. Maybe there are still references to Nero in the registry that causes the stupid checker software to choke

I don't have any "extra CD/DVD drives" as described in the other thread though.

Not sure what else to try...

Everyone who is having problems with emulation software error with Dell machines need to contact Codemasters, they are working on trying to fix it but you need to let them know, it is definately appears that this problem is specific to dell machines, contact Codemasters on the e-mail below, outline the problem and also mention that this is with a dell machine, they will e-mail you back:

Well the re-install had no effect. I have sent an email to the above address and used the webform at codemasters.co.uk. Hopefully something will come of it.

Ok I have something that might work.
Download Starforce drivers removal from http://www.onlinesecurity-on.com/protect.phtml?c=55 (Completely legal, it's even on Starforces own website)
Uninstall BLIC and then use the removal tool to delete all starforce drivers and make sure you restart.
Now install BLIC and see if it works.

Thanks for all your investigations. I will try this when I get home. However I am not hopeful... surely BLIC will just re-install the starforce drivers and I will be back to square one. Reading around the web, it is suspicious that the problems occur on new (bought in last four months or so) Dell computers. The protection software is very intrusive - I suspect it interacts badly with Dell's latest DVD drivers or something like that. It may be that I have to a) wait for ages to get a fix from Dell/codemasters/Starforce or b) somehow get a cracked version... it'd be ironic if I ended up going down the b) route - being forced into piracy by the very system that is supposed to prevent it!

Thanks again for your help,
Pete

I tried the above and all that happens is that BLIC reinstalls the software when you try to load it up.
