Somehow Pretorious isn't in the side...

Lucky has struck well today... I have become his fan from the past few series. ..

Hopefully, we can get a couple wickets now and keep England as close to or under 300, reckon anything under 320 we will be favourites.

Most of the English batsmen seem to be in good touch, just a matter of building on their starts. South Africa's bowling on the other hand looks pretty weak considering their previous standards - the fact Parnell and Morris will have to bowl nearly 20 overs suggests as much. Even Phelukwayo doesn't look particularly special and could easily be picked off by elite batsmen. It's important to give Tahir the support he requires and let him bowl in an environment where he can attack freely. Anything else is a waste of his abilities.

Update: Despite the flat pitch, England's bowling looks below-par too. Both teams have a very similar profile - They are likely to concede 350 every innings but also like score whatever target is in front of them. Hope the pitches aren't as flat as this for the CT.

Summed up quite well. SA are going to rely on Tahir too much.

However SA are in control of this game as we speak.

Good win by England, but SA really gave away their wickets cheaply. On paper at least, I think England's bowling attack is one of the weakest in the Champions Trophy, so it'll be interesting to see how they fare in the remaining matches in the series and the CT. I'd love to be proven wrong.

England looks very dangerous, one of the strongest teams ODI in years from England. Nice game this and ABraham conitnues to fail at captaincy!

One of the best things in the first ODI was the crowd and their reception to the game. It was very heartening to see people turn up with passion to watch a game which doesn't involve the sub-continental sides or isn't the Ashes. This is particularly important due to the (alleged) declining interest in countries such as South Africa, England and New Zealand and the declining quality in West Indies and Sri Lanka. Vital to have a strong (and varied) core of countries while trying to expand the game further. The next 5 years will be particularly important in this regard.

So sorry I have to say this....

But South Africa f**King choked!

Can't believe SA lost that. They messed up big time in last over. Good bowling by wood.

I had my doubts about Mark Wood, but he bowled brilliantly today.

Unbelievable to see SA losing from a winning position but credit to both Ball and Wood who held their nerves in the penultimate and the ultimate overs to pull off a splendid victory. And Short Pitch bowling could been a good option to have if you don't have the ability to execute yorkers and slower balls at the death.
