Steve Bucknor Dropped from third test

I think Hooper meant it in a context of it being very controversial if they appointed an Indian to the series after what's happened. Similarly if they'd appaointed an Aussie you'd have been up in arms.

Just saying that because it would be rather weird to see an Indian match referee chosen after the debacle:p

He is far from the best, who isn't allowed to umpire in Australia and wouldn't be accepted by India so lets get on with the game.
I'm sure Simon Taufel would be welcomed by India. I believe he cannot officiate because of the stupid "neutral-umpire" rule put up by the ICC.

:D:p:cool: Hes from your fav country Sri Lanka
He's also the head of the match referees so Hooper should have no problem accepting him, regardless of his nationality.

It would have just seemed fishy if an Indian was going to be used after what happened in the last Test. Didnt mean to be nasty.

It is perfectly understandable why Billy Bowden will be umpiring after the drama of the last Test Match.

I don't find it perfectly understandable. Nothing to do with the umpires performance, I don't really care if he had a bad game or not. What bothers me is that on two occasions now we've seen umpires dropped because an international board doesn't want them and throws their toys out of the pram (rightly or wrongly, I don't care). On one hand the ICC says that Boards do not have the right to pick and choose who umpires their matches but on the other hand it repeatedly refuses to stand by its rules. If this trend continues everytime an umpire upsets someone there will be no umpires left to officiate any matches and then there won't be any matches.

An Indian umpire cant umpire an Indian match.. Its the same with all umpires. You can umpire a match if your national team is playing in it.

:crying That means Peter Parker ( or as i and im sure most like to call him SPIDERMAN) can't umpire a game this series.:p:mad

wasn't the indian umpire scheduled to umpire the Perth Test before the actual series started?
There are no Indian umpires on the Elite Panel so none of them could have been scheduled to officiate for the Perth test match. If you are talking about Ranjan Madugalle's presence at Perth, first and foremost he is Sri Lankan, not Indian. Secondly, no, Mike Proctor was appointed match referee for this tour (at least for the Test matches). Madugalle is being flown in to mediate between the two sides to prevent further controversy.

While the BCCI's power definitely contributed a lot to this decision from the ICC, I think they also made it to protect Steve Bucknor. He's already under a lot of pressure and I don't think it would get any better for him if he made any more incorrect decisions. I think the fact that as a human there is only so much pressure you can take also played a part in the ICC's decision to withdraw him for this Test match. The report from Cricinfo also suggests that Bucknor has only been withdrawn from this Test match. There is nothing that I can see as far as removing him from the Elite Panel is concerned.

I agree, however I also think it was important for Bucknor to have some time to reflect on the match. Thrusting him into another game where the entire Indian population hates him isn't a good idea. He can only make things worse.

Trust me, you don't wanna see him. He isn't the best at making decisions though I guess he did a sound job. ainly because, well, he isn't too pleasing on the eyes. Imagine him ina spiderman suit. yuck.

Well Malcolm Speed on the radio has just confirmed that Bucknor was dropped to appease the Indians. He said it wasn't due to ICC concerns over his performance - it was because India wanted him gone...

Hes ICC favourite. Look at his accomplishments in last 1 year

1) Final of World Cup. Huge fiasco.
2) Sydney Test. Anoither fiasco.
3) Getting dumped by Indian girlfriend (fiasco for him and hes troubling us since)

Last ones my own imagination.
