Surely anyone who played international cricket in the last decade and was dropped for large periods of time is someone who " couldn't quite succeed in the last decade."

Anyone from Rayudu (who hasn't managed to establish himself after so many great domestic performances) to Mohammad Aamer (who got banned for spot fixing). Few others that come to mind are James Taylor (only recently got picked), Arshad Khan (off spinner from Pakistan). A lot of players have to be overlooked because competition for spots in the playing XI are so high.

Jacques Rudolph's problem wasn't that he didn't succeed but more because he was white so they had to drop him to make way for players of colour

But seriously, David Hussey. Had a first class average of above fifty for the vast majority of his career, handy fingerspin bowler, and yet never got a chance to play test cricket for his country.

Stuart MacGill, Probably the 3rd best spinner of his time (Behind Warne and Murali) yet only made 47 international caps.

Aakash Chopra is the first name that comes to mind. A technically sound batsman, who could see off the new ball with ease in tough places like Australia. He could have gone on to establish himself as a sound opener, unfortunately his Lady Luck seems to have deserted him there.

I was referring to the fact that England had given him a fairly long run in the test side, and he didn't secure his place. Very disappointing considering he was supposed to be a very good player of spin and yet he lost his place after a terrible series in the Emirates.

Cook ? No ways.

England have a lot of other non-performers who could have come onto the big stage as they were domestic giants. Luke Wright, James Foster for e.g Although Trescothik suffered from stress- related illnesses, he does qualify as a person who could'nt quite succeed on the main stage.

Other players include:
Narsingh Deonarine
Joginder Sharma
Amit Mishra
35 year old chinaman from Pakistan- dunno his name(was supp to play in the WT20 2014)
