NAB Cup, Round 1.

The Bombers met the Roos in round 1 of the NAB cup. They started off well, kicking the first 7 points of the game, before Kangaroos clawed back. It was only a 9 point lead at quarter time, but the Roos should have been another 3 or 4 goals up, if they had capitalised easy oppurtinties.
The 2nd quarter saw the Roos dominate once again, kicking 3.2 to just the 1.1 to the Bombers. The Bombers midfield were too lazy during the quarter, and could not keep up with the Roos.
In the start of second Half the Bombers were out of it. Nathan Thompson was far too good up forward, and Simpson was killing it around the stoppages. On the other side of things, Jason Johnson, Jobe Watson and McVeigh also had good quarters for the Bombers. Just before 3 quarter time Thompson came off the ground. It is said that he has a broken foot, and will miss out for at least 4 weeks.
The last quarter saw the Bombers finally put more then 4 goals on the board for a quarter, but so did the Roos. Although the Bombers played some of there best footy in the last quarter, it was too late. The Essendon captain Lloyd kicked 2 goals in the last, to finish on a high.

What Ben Storer said after the game:
"Yeah, i'm pretty dissapointed about the game. I know the NAB cup doesn't really mean much, but I would have liked to get my boys confidence up, and get them pumped up for round 1. As I can see, we still have alot of things to work on, and the training will get alot harder now."

In a physical first term it was the Roos who controlled play, with Brown kicking the first goal, followed by Harding kicking the next. It was all the Roos until Watson kicked the dons first, after consecutive easy misses.
The second quarter was the complete opposite, as it was the Dons playing some great footy from the bounce. A Goal from Watson(who had kicked two, and the only two for the bombers) fired up the Bombers, and the goals just kept coming, before the Roos stopped the flow of the Don's success, through quick goals by Sansbury(1) and Brown(2), and gave them a nice 9 point lead at half time.
The game started slipping away in the third quarter, with the Roos running the Dons around. When McIntosh goaled the crowd got on it's feet, and cheered the Roos on. Goals from Watt and Harris game them a handy lead, but the Bombers managed to peg two back, from the unlikely goal kicker in Michael and Johnson. The Roos went into three quarter time with a handy lead of 17 points.
It was a bad start for Brown who was reported early in the fourth quarter for striking Fletcher, but that didn't stop the rest of the Kangaroo team, who kept the goals coming, with another two goals to Brown, who had seemed pumped up after the report. The Roos ran away in the last 10 minutes, winning the match simply.

"Dissapointed. Just a shocking performance from the boys. They looked like they were still playing U/10's. I am seriously considering dropping a few of the guys. They will defiantly be trained harder then ever before, and I just hope we can learn from this loss."
