The 2008 AFL Premiership Season will kick under way this weekend with Richmond hosting Melbourne at the MCG. A huge crowd is expected to come to this match, with both teams struggling last season, Richmond finishing last on the ladder, and Melbourne, finishing in the bottom 4, it will be a good way to kick off the 2008 Season.

The Round 1 Fixture looks like this...

Friday Night
Richmond vs Melbourne @ M.C.G

Saturday
Carlton vs Fremantle @ Telstra Dome
Collingwood vs Hawthorn @ M.C.G
St.Kilda vs Western Bulldogs @ Telstra Dome
Brisbane vs Port Adelaide @ Gabba

Sunday
Adelaide vs Sydney @ Aami Stadium
Essendon vs Kangaroos @ Telstra Dome
West Coast vs Geelong @ Subiaco

The 2008 Round 1 looks to be a good opening to the season, Collingwood and Hawthorn will be a blockbuster. Both teams were in good form at the end of last season, with the Hawks coming off a finals berth against the Crows and the Kangaroos. Saints and the Bulldogs at the Dome will be a fierce contest, and Brisbane and the Power always put on a good show.

Essendon and the Kangaroos have always put on a good game for the ages, in 2001, the Bombers came back from a record margin 81 points to win over the Roos in just a quarter and a half.
Geelong coming off their Premiership Season will defend their title against the 2006 Premiers, West Coast.

Melbourne come off the ground after being beaten by the bottom side in 2007, will this repeat again in the opening round of 2008?

Round One: Richmond vs Melbourne

A fierce and a high scoring affair between the 2 bottom teams of 2007, was the story of their Friday Night Round 1 opener at the MCG. It was the perfect scene. Friday Night, under lights at the best sporting facility in Australia.

Richmond came out firing. A huge scoring quarter, by the bottom team of last season. 6 goals 8 to the Demons 3 goals straight to finish the quarter, it was a good start from the Tiges with Richo in good form. It was a much better quarter from the Demons in the 2nd Term. 6 goals to the Tigs only 3, so the roles reveresed, as new Demon coach Dean Bailey, gave the Dees a huge rev up at the quarter time break.

The 3rd term was a lot less scoring, with the Dees kicking ahead to lead by 4 points going into the last qurater, and it was shaping up to be a good finish.
And so it was, 6 goals to the Tigers, and 4 to the Demons, it was another high scoring quarter, but saw the Tigers finish off strongly, and come home with a 6 point win over the Demons. A exellent match, and the 52 + thousand fans that came to the game, would of seen a exellent match.

Matthew Richardson was in good form, and was unstopable for the whole night, kicking a bag of 5. Kayne Pettifer and Nathan Brown showed they still have plenty in the tank booting 3 each. For the Demons, Neitz, and Debutant, Cale Morton kicking 3 goals.
Trent Cotchin, the high pick in the National Draft for the Tigers, played a good game, had 14 possesions and kicked a goal on debut.

Why have you got season 2007 in your banner when the title says 2008 premiership season?
