i think he should retire after the tour of australia/pakistan as mentioned in the article.....!
ODI format is taking a toll on his body and with the amount/frequency of matches played
these days...hes probably made a right decision ! it would be weird to see him out of the
squad though as i have been watching him play for india since the moment i could watch TV :(

If it is too extend his Test career then I see no problem, it would give an opportunity for a youngster to really make the position their own. Having Tendulkar playing for India in Test would be far more beneficial than him playing in both ODI's and Tests for a shorter period.

As Animator! says, if he feels he needs to quit ODI's to continue performing in tests then I think its probably a good idea for him to do so. However I don't agree that giving youngsters opportunities should come into it. Ok if thats a side effect fine, but youngsters should fight for their place in a side on merit, not because they are younger than someone else although that would require selectors to pick players on talent and form rather than always opting for safe big name players.

Sorry Kev, I meant it providing a chance if he were to retire, not for him to retire just to create an opportunity.

Yeah. That bugs me. Just because there are a gazillion younger players than him doesn't mean he should give up. I'd be very disappointed if he retires. His ODI cricket this year has been the best since the 2003 World Cup. He's in awesome form.

well...thats why players look to retire on a high ! ;)

NOOO
Don't do this Sachin.
Wait four more years...please!
You can go on!
Cmon Sachin just get the world cup back to India..please sachin!

I don't think he can stay till the next World Cup, but he shouldn't retire now. He must keep playing for at least one more year.

4 more years is a long time for a man playing international cricket for 18 years (iirc). He should retire rather than quit due to being a liability, that'd be horrible to see.

personally i think sachin is better suited to the shorter format of the game but whatever the little master feels comfortable with...

I disagree. He's got more of a cool tempered personality now IMO and should quit ODIs and concentrate on the real form of cricket.

No. I feel he is now more suited for the longer version. Test cricket is always the ultimate. The speed of ODI cricket can drain someone like Tendulkar who has had a history of fitness problems in recent years.

The day he retires, got to keep my emotions in check. He is probably on the top of my list of lifetime entertainers. He has given me great joy and happiness in watching him play. He is a genius batsman and his inability to perform in pressure situations in recent times should not deter from calling him "one of the greatest batsman ever in cricket". He is definitely a legend.

That would be great if he retired against Pakistan, he also made his debut against us.

Would be perfect if his last match is at Mumbai, his home ground.

Wait, according to Cricinfo, the last match of the India-Pakistan ODI series this year is at the Sawai Mansingh stadium, Jaipur

Hope Sachin announces his decision soon so that the BCCI can do something to change the venue from Jaipur to the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Give him the perfect farewell (unless he changes his decision and continues in ODI's).
