Versus threads are a rarity on planetcricket but I feel that these two have dominated their era with a mixture of attacking strokeplay and prolific run scoring in both tests and ODIs, who do you think is the better overall batsman?

Points to Consider

-Tendulkar was in his prime in an era of great fast bowlers while Ponting is in his prime now where there is a decline in star bowlers.
-Ponting has had the backing of many great Australian batsman
-Tendulkar entertains the crowds more with fluid strokeplay and is more agressive in ODIs.
-Tendulkar is versatile in the order in ODIs, opening and going four, both successfully.
-Tendulkar has scored more runs than Ponting in his career, Ponting may decline in the future.

On the other hand...

-Ponting is more consistant (see ratings), with a similar ODI average and far better test one.
-Ponting bats in the tough position of number 3.
-Ponting seemingly has no weaknesses.
-Tendulkar often had the support of Dravid.
-Ponting will soon overtake Tendulkar's hundred tally, proving the more prolific run scorer.

Debate away...there's also a poll.

I think there was a thread not so long ago which discussed this topic to death. I hope I can find it soon.

How many 'Who's the best batsman of this era?" threads have we had? I'm running out of fingers and toes.

My answer - Tendulkar, because no other person has managed to keep me as entertained, as glued to this sport as this man.
