LEINSTER LIGHTNING INNINGS

Welcome back after the drinks break! The match is tilted largely in favour of Leinster at this moment, with 2 set batsmen on the crease, and required run rate less than 4. Munster need some quick wickets to stay in this match. Let's see if they can do it or not...

Code:

With the match slipping out of his team's hands, George Dockrell came on to bowl for one last time this season, and he does make a helluva closing statement. Some outstanding flight and spin accounts for Kevin O'Brien, as he got stumped on 34. Is this the switch the Reds need?

Ever since Kevin O'Brien got out, Gareth Delany has been watchful, not taking any risks. Munster are desperate for a wicket now, and thus are bowling all their strike bowlers in search of one.

And it works. Ollie Newton bowls a mean bouncer to Gareth Delany, resulting in a top edge, and a simple caught and bowled for him. Now at 199/6, the match hangs in the balance, with no proper batsman remaining for Leinster except Curtis Campher. Can the young gun hold his nerves?

Wow sorry, exams have been keeping me occupied lately.

Firstly, this presentation has been superb, I’ve really enjoyed and appreciated the effort you’ve put in. Batting I thought was a bit poor, not enough of them capitalized on a relatively average bowling line up. Think we left 30-40 runs out there and we might end up regretting it.

Bowling has been great so far to keep us in it, Boult needs to step up with his last 2 overs to really give us a chance.

Also it’ll be so typical if my former teammate ends up playing a match winning knock in the final against me. So in the nicest way possible, I hope Boult and co. end Campher’s career right here today

LEINSTER LIGHTNING INNINGS

So, the Leinster Lightning need 42 runs to win the title. With, Curtis Campher, the young all rounder and Rashid Khan, arguably one of the best pinch hitters today, on the crease, they would fancy their chances. But no one knows what can happen. Munster have two overs each of Trent Boult, Josh Little and Ollie Newton, still to go. Can they make their 12-12 balls count? Let's get back to the action, with Curtis Campher facing Trent Boult.
Code:
39.1 Boult to Campher, no run, Appeal for LBW, a bit too optimistic though
39.2 Boult to Campher, one run, That is very well run by Rashid Khan
39.3 Boult to Khan, OUT, Ross Taylor takes an easy catch to dismiss Rashid Khan

         Rashid Khan 1 (4b)
         c. Taylor b. Boult

39.4 Boult to Cummins, no run, A lot of movement being extracted by Boult
39.5 Boult to Cummins, one run, That was a very risky single.
39.6 Boult to Campher, one run, One more to the total

End of over 40 (3 runs)
         LEINSTER LIGHTNING 202/7
         (R/R: 5.05 R/R Req: 3.80)
         Trent Boult 9.0-1-44-2
         Pat Cummins 1(2b)
         Curtis Campher 14(23b)

VRP_2100.jpg
And another one! Munster are slowly crawling their way back in the match, as Trent Boult bowls an excellent bouncer to outfox Rashid Khan. Can Pat Cummins hang out long enough for Curtis Campher to score the remaining runs?
Code:
40.1 Newton to Campher, two runs, Took the first one quickly the second was no problem
40.2 Newton to Campher, one run, Appeal for LBW! Not out, though. Runs given.
40.3 Newton to Cummins, no run, Left alone by Pat Cummins
40.4 Newton to Cummins, no run, Pat Cummins was completely deceived
40.5 Newton to Cummins, no run, Defensively played by Pat Cummins
40.6 Newton to Cummins, no run, Pat Cummins was completely deceived

         LEINSTER LIGHTNING 205/7
         (R/R: 5.00 R/R Req: 3.89)
         Ollie Newton 9.0-0-41-2
         Pat Cummins 1(6b)
         Curtis Campher 17(25b)

1540710075983.jpg

So close! So Close! Ollie Newton produces a gem of an inswinger on the second ball of the over, which hit Curtis Campher on the pad. The whole team appealed and appealed, but the umpire was unmoved. Replays showed that it had the faintest of inside edges that one could have gotten. A lucky escape for Leinster.
Code:
41.1 Little to Campher, no run, Curtis Campher was completely deceived
41.2 Little to Campher, one run, The misfield by Newton allows yet another run
41.3 Little to Cummins, no run, A lot of movement being extracted by Little
41.4 Little to Cummins, two runs, Great running between the wickets 2 more
41.5 Little to Cummins, one run, The misfield by Root allows yet another run
41.6 Little to Campher, three runs, Inside edge, Great work by Boult saved a certain boundary

End of over 42 (7 runs)
         LEINSTER LIGHTNING 212/7
         (R/R: 5.05 R/R Req: 3.50)
         Josh Little 9.0-0-44-0
         Pat Cummins 4(9b)
         Curtis Campher 21(28b)

ST_20190624_SPTBOU_4928797.jpg

Another stroke of luck for Leinster! Joshua Little worked so hard to find the inside edge of Pat Cummins bat, on the last ball of the over, but it missed both, the stumps and Doheny's gloves, and raced towards the fine leg boundary. Trent Boult's dive saved a four there, but it does get Curtis Campher on strike for the next over.

Code:
42.1 Boult to Campher, no run, Defensively played by Curtis Campher
42.2 Boult to Campher, no run, Left alone by Curtis Campher
42.3 Boult to Campher, no run, That ball was a mystery to the batsman
42.4 Boult to Campher, one run, The misfield by Thompson allows yet another run
42.5 Boult to Cummins, no run, Pat Cummins missed that one by a mile
42.6 Boult to Cummins, one run, The misfield by Taylor allows yet another run
The end to a good spell from Trent Boult

End of over 43 (2 runs)

         Pat Cummins 5(11b)

gettyimages-1212122095-2048x2048.jpg
Trent Boult completes his quota of overs. Munster desperately need the three wickets now, but are running out of strike bowlers to do so. Can Ollie Newton do something in his last over?
Code:
43.1 Newton to Cummins, no run, Appeal for LBW, a bit too optimistic though
43.2 Newton to Cummins, one run, Great cooperation between Pat Cummins and Curtis Campher

         Pat Cummins 7(14b)

Pat+Cummins+New+Zealand+v+Australia+1st+ODI+mnTPi3qXCc0l.jpg

One more strike bowler gone! Pat Cummins and Campher are doing really great in batting out the overs, knowing they have lots of balls left to chase the target. Joshua Little is coming on to bowl his last over. If he doesn't get this wicket, it's game over for Munster surely.
Code:
44.1 Little to Cummins, one run, One more to the total
44.2 Little to Campher, no run, That ball was a mystery to the batsman
44.3 Little to Campher, no run, Huge appeal for LBW but turned down
44.4 Little to Campher, one run, One more to the total
44.5 Little to Cummins, no run, A lot of movement being extracted by Little
44.6 Little to Cummins, no run, Left alone by Pat Cummins
The end to a good spell from Josh Little

End of over 45 (2 runs)
         LEINSTER LIGHTNING 221/7
         (R/R: 4.91 R/R Req: 3.80)

         Pat Cummins 8(17b)
         Curtis Campher 26(38b)

river

Another chance goes begging! One more appeal for LBW gets turned down, probably because of height. While only two runs were conceded in that over, Josh Little has also bowled out. So only Greame McCarter and Max Sorensen will have to bowl the remaining five overs. Can they produce a miracle?

Code:
45.1 Sorenson to Campher, one run, Great cooperation between Curtis Campher and Pat Cummins
45.2 Sorenson to Cummins, no run, Defensively played by Pat Cummins
45.3 Sorenson to Cummins, no run, The umpire turns down that ridiculous appeal from Greg Thompson
45.4 Sorenson to Cummins, no run, Pat Cummins was completely deceived
45.5 Sorenson to Cummins, one run, That was a very risky single.
45.6 Sorenson to Campher, no run, Defensively played by Curtis Campher

End of over 46 (2 runs)
         LEINSTER LIGHTNING 223/7
         (R/R: 4.85 R/R Req: 4.25)
         Max Sorenson 2.0-0-10-0
         Curtis Campher 27(40b)
         Pat Cummins 9(21b)

340783.jpg

A good over from Max Sorensen, but still no wicket. Pat Cummins has been as adamant as they come. Now Greame McCarter comes on to bowl, can he dismiss Cummins, or the big fish, Campher?

Code:
46.1 McCarter to Cummins, FOUR, That was a bad delivery by Greame McCarter, deserving this punishment
46.2 McCarter to Cummins, no run, Pat Cummins missed that one by a mile
46.3 McCarter to Cummins, one run, That is very well run by Curtis Campher
46.4 McCarter to Campher, one run, The misfield by McCarter allows yet another run
46.5 McCarter to Cummins, no run, Defensively played by Pat Cummins
46.6 McCarter to Cummins, FOUR, That was a bad delivery by Greame McCarter, deserving this punishment

End of over 47 (10 runs)
         LEINSTER LIGHTNING 233/7
         (R/R: 4.96 R/R Req: 2.33)
         Greame McCarter 5.0-0-42-0
         Pat Cummins 18(26b 2X4)
         Curtis Campher 28(41b)
Pat-Cummins-batting-pics.jpg

That is the dismissive blow from Pat Cummins! He hits two boundaries in the over, both over deep mid wicket, to destroy any hope Munster had of winning this game. With 7 runs required to win, surely game in the bag?

Code:
47.1 Sorenson to Campher, SIX, What a wonderful player Curtis Campher is
47.2 Sorenson to Campher, SIX, ???!!! Its coming towards the commentary box Im leaving!!!

         End of innings (47.2 overs)
         LEINSTER LIGHTNING 245/7 (RR: 5.30)
         Max Sorenson 2.2-0-22-0
         Curtis Campher 40(43b 2X6)
         Pat Cummins 18(26b 2X4)

That will be the match
A very close match indeed but in the end the Leinster Lightning batsmen managed to overtake the total

They made it with just 16 balls to spare

curtis-campher-of-south-africa-during-the-1st-odi-between-england-u19-picture-id1004234038

I take my words back! Those were the dismissive blows from Curtis Campher! He had had enough of messing around, so he decided to bat the way he knows how to. He hits both the balls of Max Sorensen's over for monsterous sixes over the cow corner, as Leinster rush onto the field!

Leinster win the Test Triangle Inter Provincial series! Munster tried and tried and tried, but Curtis Campher was immovable.

I had complete confidence in Campher with the bat, and I'm glad I finally backed him in the business end of the tournament

Annoyed to miss out on Campher, used to play with him in High School. Didn't think anyone would know of him

Ahh well, end of the day we just didn't score enough. Pity to get so close, but I'm amazed we got to where we are. Only having one of the main Irish internationals, I was sure we were in for a long campaign but we somehow managed to pull together and get to the final. Overseas pros were incredible, Dockrell, Thompson and others all played their part. Let's also not forget the performance of Doheny in the final, probably should have played him more (You get 0 points for guessing who was bowling when Doheny got dismissed). All in all, was a great campaign and was fantastically run by @Yash. Great league to make a comeback into the PC leagues. Congrats to @Aislabie, who managed to build a side that was simply unbeatable and managed it incredibly well.

Whoa! That was a nail biting finale for all of us. Munster tried to make a game out of nothing, and they almost succeeded if not for Curtis Campher and Pat Cummins. Leinster would be filled with joy, after winning this trophy. Hard luck to Munster, but they did really good for first timers in the List A league. Now, off to the presentation...

First up, we have the Player of the Match award for tonight, and it goes to the man who set the tone for the chase. On a pitch where others struggled, he batted at run a ball, and laid the platform, on which other completed the chase. Yes, it goes to none other than, Jonny Bairstow. He'll get the award from the Chairman of Test Triangle, our sponsor for the tournament. Mark Nicholas will interview him...

--

Thanks Yash! So Jonny Bairstow, the Player of the Match in the final! He'll receive a cheque of $15000 and a trophy, from the Chairman of Test Triangle. Jonny, if you can come up here, please!

Jonny-Bairstow-player-of-the-match.jpg

How happy are you to win this award?

Extremely! It's an honour to perform for my team, and that too in the most important match of the league. Curtis played extremely well, and so did the bowlers. The low score perhaps gave me the backing that I could go out and play my natural game. Happy that it payed off.

You and Rohit formed a formidable opening partnership this season, with two opening stands crossing 100, two others crossing 50, from 7 innings. Any comments on that?
Yup! It was really fun opening with Rohit Sharma. We all know his prowess in 50 over cricket, so it was easy for me to just keep along with him. We both play a similar attacking game, so whenever we clicked, we were unstoppable.

Thanks Jonny! Enjoy the win!

The next award, is the Super Smasher award, for the batsman with the most sixes during the course of the tournament. To present this award, I call upon Mr. Matthew Whitehorn, the owner of Planet Cricket, without which this league wouldn't have been possible. The winner of this award, is another batsman from the Lightning, their second highest run getter, and the opening partner to Jonny Bairstow, Rohit Sharma, for his 10 sixes throughout the tournament. He receives a cheque of $20000, and a special medal.

# | Player | Team | Innings | Sixes | Strike Rate
1 | Rohit Sharma | LL | 7 | 10 | 96.62
2 | William Porterfield | NW | 6 | 9 | 77.45
3 | Kevin O'Brien | LL | 7 | 8 | 123.92
4 | Babar Azam | MR | 7 | 8 | 94.93
5 | Virat Kohli | NK | 6 | 7 | 110.67

Rohit Sharma wins the Super Smasher award for his 10 sixes throughout the tournament. Rohit, if you could come up for the interview...

So, how do you think your season went?
It was good overall, although the pitches weren't as easy to hit sixes on, as they are back in India. It's quite surprising for me that I won this award, considering I thought I hit quite less sixes this tournament. All in all, we won the tournament, and that is what matters to me the most.

Considering you were the most experienced player in your side, how did you feel about Andy's captaincy?
He was quite thoughtful, and actually pretty good. He took full use of my experience, asking me for advice time to time, and asking my say in the matters. The way he led the troops this season, I say Ireland has got itself a great captain for the future.

Next up, is the SpearHead award for the best bowling figures in the tournament. No prizes for guessing who the award goes to. One of the best bowlers this season, despite playing only 3 matches, one can only imagine what he could've done if he had played all the matches. It goes to Kagiso Rabada. He too, receives a cheque of $20000 and a special medal from Planet Cricket.

# | Player | Team | Figures | Match
1 | Kagiso Rabada | NK | 6/31 | NK vs LL R5
2 | Kagiso Rabada | NK | 4/59 | NK vs MR R6
3 | Tyrone Kane | NK | 3/29 | NK vs MR R6
4 | Simi Singh | NW | 3/32 | NW vs NK R4
5 | Pat Cummins | LL | 3/36 | LL vs MR R4

The destroyer of lineups! The terror from South Africa, Kagiso Rabada, wins the SpearHead Award. Kagiso, if you could come up for a word or two.

gettyimages-474998861-1024x1024.jpg

How do you rate your season overall?
It was a good season personally, but our team did not perform as expected. We would have liked to have won a few more matches. But what's done is done. Hoping the next season I perform even better, and actually win the trophy for our team.

Thanks Kagiso! All the best for your future endeavours.

The next award is the Award for the highest run scorer in the league. This man was phenomenal in almost every match and no bowler seemed to find a way to beat him. Even in the final, he was unfazed and took his team to a respectable total, although it wasn't enough for them to win. I request Ross Taylor to come onto the podium to receive the cheque of $30000 and a Golden Bat.

# | Player | Team | Innings | Runs | Average | 100s | 50s | Best
1 | Ross Taylor | MR | 7 | 510 | 102.00 | 1 | 4 | 119
2 | Babar Azam | MR | 7 | 412 | 68.67 | 2 | 2 | 110
3 | Andrew Balbirnie | LL | 7 | 396 | 66.00 | 0 | 5 | 90
4 | Virat Kohli | NK | 6 | 363 | 60.50 | 1 | 3 | 168
5 | Kane Williamson | NW | 6 | 353 | 70.60 | 2 | 0 | 117

The king from New Zealand, Mr. Consistent, Ross Taylor! Ross, please come up to the podium to accept the Golden Bat, and then, please come up for the interview.

Ross, Unlucky to lose the final. Any comments about your performance?

Gutted to lose. These trophies are good personally, but at the end of the day, it's the Win that matters. We just couldn't cross the line. The bowlers tried their level best, it just wasn't our day. Hoping we can win this the next time.

Any players you were particularly impressed with, throughout the season?
Yup, many young players who played were tremendously good. From our team, Ollie Newton was really good, both in his pinch hitting and his bowling throughout the season. Harry Tector of Northern Knights also impressed me with the way he batted against Leinster when he guided the chase. And of course, today's hero Curtis Campher was also really good.

Thanks Ross!

Now, for the final personal award, which is the highest wicket taker award, I would like to call upon the podium, the star from Australia, World's no. 1 test bowler, and one of today's heroes, Pat Cummins!

# | Player | Team | Innings | Wickets | Average | Economy | Best
1 | Pat Cummins | LL | 7 | 13 | 25.15 | 4.88 | 3/36
2 | Kagiso Rabada | NK | 3 | 11 | 10.45 | 4.42 | 6/31
3 | Simi Singh | NW | 6 | 10 | 30.70 | 5.13 | 3/32
4 | Rashid Khan | LL | 7 | 10 | 34.80 | 5.12 | 3/40
5 | Trent Boult | MR | 5 | 9 | 23.78 | 4.46 | 3/43

--

Pattrick, Please come up to the podium to receive the Cheque for $30000 and the Golden Ball. You've been absolutely fantastic throughout the tournament, and thus emerged as rightful winners.

Talk us through today's winning partnership...

It was quite tense. To be honest, I was the one who was freaking out a little, and Curtis was calming me down. Luck was with me, so I didn't get out there. Curtis was absolutely fantastic.

How about your bowling?

The season was a good one. I took wickets regularly and was quite economical. Barry McCarthy supported me throughout the tournament quite well. I hope I can continue this form forward for Australia.

Thanks Pat.

And now for the main thing! The Winners trophy! Leinster Lightning, the Winners of 2020 Test Triangle IP50! Guys, take the stage, that trophy's all yours!
