Apple has so far announced new iPods, iTunes, iOS, and Apple TV.

I'll update in more detail when its over.

Apple? will broadcast its September 1 event online using Apple?s industry-leading HTTP Live Streaming, which is based on open standards. Viewing requires either a Mac? running Safari? on Mac OS? X version 10.6 Snow Leopard?, an iPhone? or iPod touch? running iOS 3.0 or higher, or an iPad?. The live broadcast will begin at 10:00 a.m. PDT on September 1, 2010 at Apple.

Way to make new friends :p

Is this Apple nonsense still going on :p

Damn teeney boppers

Just bought a 32gig iPod Touch. My 1st generation Touch needed an upgrade and since I'm going to be moving from iPhone 3GS to probably WinPho7 in the next couple of years, figured I should get the latest iOS device.

New Apple TV looks pretty sick. Won't get one but defo a good upgrade from the last one. Smaller, sleeker, and cheaper. Not bad.

I reckon the new Nano can be used as a watch if you really want it to :p

Apple TV is a redundant product, although the AirPlay feature looks interesting. I guess it is targeted towards people who don't have cable or a Netflix-enabled media device.

AirPlay is real cool. That's a feature I think Im going use a lot.

I don't think ATV is redundant. I don't want to keep going to my Comp to watch movies. Right now i'm burning all my media on to DVDs and going to the TV.

But I won't be getting this. I think i'll wait till next year and turn my Mac Mini into an HTPC.

If you're burning to DVD then presumably ATV isn't going to help you unless you're now ready to shell out $5 to rent a movie out.

It's redundant for anyone who has a current gen gaming console (except maybe the Wii). As far as I am aware, all current gen consoles and most new HDTVs today have the ability to connect to a network share to stream content. Wii, PS3 and X360 all have Netflix enabled.

This only makes sense if you don't have cable and want to watch TV shows ($1 per show isn't bad) or you don't want to invest in a network-based method to achieve this. I'm guessing it's targeted towards the latter and the price point is relatively low meaning that it may gain a foothold. The AirPlay feature is another unique feature. If I understand it correctly, it allows you to view content stored on the ATV on your other devices and vica versa. While you can already achieve this with apps such as AirVideo, I suppose this will be more seamless.

I don't need something like this since I have an HTPC setup and my TV already has network and Netflix integration.

Damn, none of those new products interest me. The iPod Touch looks interesting, but useless as I've got an iP4.

I like the news about 4.1, and 4.2 for the useless iPad (even though, if I had money to throw away, i'd get two).

The new iTunes also looks pretty good. I like that Apple are diversifying and jumping onboard of social networking. At the minute, they're claiming to be a mix of Facebook and Twitter, but I reckon in a few years, they'll challenge for that throne when they've got a taste of it.

Are they coming up with a new version of the iTouch? I have the 2nd GEN iTouch right now. Any chances of trading?

Yeah, the fourth gen was announced.

8GB - $229
32GB - $299
64GB - $399

I bought a 32GB earlier today. They ship next week. I'm probably going to either sell the 1st generation or give it to someone else in my family.

Did you buy todays newest version Sohum? I assume you did, otherwise, I'd be wondering why you don't cancel/take it back!

Yeah, I think he ordered the new one just now.

New iPod Touch's are defo good. Lots of upgrades. Two cameras, face time, retina display... would've liked to see 16GB be the smallest (and cheapest) option though.

This puts me in a predicament. I'm looking to upgrade my phone in October. I am considering the iPhone and it was my number 1 until today. AT&T doesn't have 3G in my area so I'm tempted to go to Verizon on a Droid X or an Incredible. I will be getting a free iPod touch in June anyways (Through the whole back to school deal thing)

I currently have 1st Gen iPod touch (getting crappier with every software update, are they trying to kill old products? I haven't even upgraded to iOS4, i'm on like 3.0), T-Mobile G1 (that is in terrible shape; won't connect to WiFi, T-Mobile's service sucks majorly over here, and can't do anything besides make calls, text, and surf the web. Music is a no go), and my beloved iPad (technically my dads, but hey...) :)

I don't think my iPod or my G1 will have any resale value.

Hmm.

From what i gathered AirPlay allows you to stream your iTunes content to all your iOS devices. I can sit in India and watch a movie from my desktop here over Wifi. And its free!

The new iTouch has two cameras (same as that of iPhone 4)? WTF, WOW!!!! Thats freaking awesome. Does it have the mic too (it should if it has facetime)?? If thats true, I wish they have some kind of an exchange deal where I can trade in my current 2nd GEN iTouch and pay a small amount for the new one. I will then forget getting the iPhone and get an HTC Aria instead (with AT&T).

Edit: Just went to Apple's site and saw the new iTouch's features and specifications. OMG!! I want this badly!

There is an app called "OrbLive" that does that too (streams content from your PC over the net, where only you can access unless you allow the public to view it). Why buy an AirPlay for it?

1. Simbazz, yes I ordered the new one. I didn't take the time to evaluate whether it was a good purchasing decision because my iPod Touch is a 1st generation and deserves an upgrade, especially since it has already crashed once and has been finicky even with no apps installed. I'm looking to dump that on someone who has no iOS device and getting a sleek new toy for myself. :)

2. Cricketman, that ability is possible for absolutely free as long as you have the requisite technical skills and your desktop always connected to the internet. I've been hosting my music, videos, movies, tv shows, etc. off of my desktop for ages through a web application. I don't need an iOS device to view it--I can use any web browser (including Mobile Safari). It's nothing new. From the perspective of iOS, what they're removing is the need to set anything up. Of course, it remains to be seen if this is only content that was purchased through the iTunes store, otherwise you may enter weird legal issues. If that's the case, then going with a free option or a cheap option like Air Video is worth it. What you obviously would get with AirPlay is the ability to view rented content on any device... or theoretically that would be possible, I don't know if ATV will support that. But it comes down to the fact that you basically need the device connected to the network to be able to access that content.

3. Sai, the back camera on the iPod Touch can only take VGA quality pictures (960x720 = 0.7 megapixels). Comparatively, iPhone 4 has a 5-megapixel camera. So just one thing to keep in mind--the still camera in the iPod Touch is not the same--it's of much lower quality.
