Your Cricket The Art of Legspin

Focus on what you're doing when you bowl the perfect ball, and try and repeat it.

When walking/running in to bowl, don't think about anything else but where you want to bowl. Look at that spot on the pitch, and focus. Visualise how the delivery should come out and urge yourself to land the ball there.

Don't worry when you bowl a bad ball after a good one. Just forget it and move on. But if you do bowl a good ball, take a moment to admire it.

This helped me get my legbreak to the point where I back myself to land it on the spot I want to 8 times out of 10.

with tape ball one of the biggest problem which indopak faces is that they play not more then 15 overs match on usual base due to which spinners doesn't gets time to settle.
One of the main reason for Pakistan to produce fast bowlers is mentioned above, every guy try to bowl fast as they thought spin can't give them wickets and yes, you can't get the turn from the tape ball except ball is in the air, as soon as it pitches leg spin converts into dead spin.

One thing, never look intimidated, never stop believing Even if you are crap, or worse - my standard, never stop believing that you can get the batsman out, it boosts your confidence and can make you daring:D

Meh, I play tape bowl and spinners get owned badly here. Am a leggie too, and a pretty decent one, If i say so myself. What I usually do is grip the bowl like a usual fast bowler and when delivering, make the thumb face the batsman and use the whole wrist to help the bowl spin as much. Usually with the tape bowl, I tend to get decent amount of spin. Another grip I do use, is the Ajmal grip, where I put my middle finger on top of the bowl and the rest at the bottom. This helps me to adjust between bowling off-breaks and normal legspinners and can make my decisions even at the last minute.

Agree with Zorax you got to focus immensely on the place where you want to bowl at, otherwise you can get it wrong horribly and good batsman can easily crack you for fours.

Agreed, if you want to get the ball high though, look at and aim for the batsman's helmet, it will dip and spin - unbeatable

I myself at present is a off-spinner(with tape ball), usually finger spin is what on which I relay more and more but still I can get owned too.
last week I played a friendly match and I was hit for 20 runs(in an over) but I too get two most important wickets and we won the match in the end but after that match, nobody was keen to give me over again in any match because they think spin is crap in tape ball world.
Similarly 6 month back I played a hard ball match and I first tried leg spin and I was pretty successful because I am basically turner of ball, on a good surface I can turn a great deal but again leg spinner is an aggressive option, you can hit for plenty but you can also walk through the opposition team.

With a tape ball, I find that I am getting thrashed much more often when I bowl fast swinging deliveries, but I am at my economical best when bowling legspinners.

It depends on the batsmen I guess.

When i started to bowl legspin, even before mastering it, i started to work on googly, toppy and stuff. Now i cant even bowl good legspin consistently. I was really really good it when I wasnt too serious about it. I'd just go down and bowl my legspin. Thats it. But I screwed up by trying to experiment with it. Now I have been working on this for 2 (or more) years now, I have my good days, and i have my bad days, mostly confused days. I havnt figured myself out yet. Legspin is all about what works best for you. Dont try to follow some 1. I mean just follow the basics 1st, and from there do what ever suits you. Zorax if slow arm action works for you, you should just do that. If you wanna grip the ball tighter and you feel better with it, then do just that. Those are Warne's words. Dont try to experiment too much, like I did. Its really hard to go back to normal.

It's very frustrating. and sometimes i get really angry when I am practicing! But i am not giving up until i get it right. Because i love leg spin, its a art. I am sure i will get it right. i wish Warne would just appear out of no where someday and help me the fearsome tweak out!! :crying

In tape ball cricket, offspin FTW.

You have a point ML. I'll try slowing down my arm and if I feel comfortable with it, and my bowling's coming out well, I'll stick with it. Otherwise I'll return to my flattish legspinners.

This article made me cry! Long live Mossy's leg spin

How exactly do you bowl the flipper? I've watched videos and they just say click your fingers which is what I do when releasing the ball but it doesn't seem to have the same effectiveness like Warne. Also seems a bit too easy so I'm probably not doing it right.

Flipper is supposed to be another version of the slider.

I think in your delivery, you "click" the fingers so the ball doesn't get any spin on it, despite you making the exact same action to a normal leg-break.

I think it works because you cancel out your spin with your thumb, which goes the other way.

Like Tum said, you have the ball in the back of your hand, and click your fingers to release so it just spins on.

You click your finger not figure :p

Don't worry about your action, try to bowl a normal leg-break, but in the end click your fingers.

First thing is first, do you know how to click your fingers?
