In the History of Cricket we have seen both types : Top Quality and Controversial ones.

So who are the Successful ones ? The best five Umpires of all time to have officiated test matches

Steve Bucknor is the worst of all time - he gets paid by cricket Australia to cheat and ruin test matches.

Seriously though, an umpire is an umpire. I honestly don't know who the 5 best are, though I know Taufel is great. They all make mistakes and they all make great decisions.

What's with people trying to order and rank everything all the time on these forums?

^ Absolutely right, Jordox. Not sure about the "cheating" part but he certainly is the WORST umpire of alltime.

My top 5 from what I've seen:

4. Billy Bowden

No he isn't. Bucknor was a very fine umpire for the large majority of his career. There are worse umpires currently umpiring than Bucknor, names like Tiffin and Harper are far worse than Bucknor was, even in his last 3-4 years of international umpiring.

Why aren't you guys including Billy Bowden in your lists? He's a great entertainer. One of the most colourful characters the game currently has. My fav umpire after Taufel, Shepherd and Koertzen.

I like them all until and unless they are not giving Sachin out. I know this is a bit bias by theory but then life is so unlike theory.

You know. That over by Freddie Flintoff to Jacques Kallis. There was one ball where it hit him straight on the toe and it was pretty clear that it did and it was also pretty clear that it was hitting middle stump but Aleem Dar gave it not out. I wasn't accusing English fans of anything.

Just to clear it up, I was being 100% sarcastic about that.

I thought the "Seriously though," and the "Gets paid by Cricket Australia to cheat and ruin matches" should have given that away.

Sarcasm is never well portrayed through forums. I should learn this someday.
