I've heard some dissapointing things about the latter books though Mark. A couple of people I trust quite highly with their opinions on literature suggested that eventually it starts to feel firstly like it's been deliberately dragged out to increase profitability, and that secondly in his desperation to keep the plot interesting, he in turn begins to introduce and kill characters with such frequent unpredictability that it actually becomes highly predictable. The negative effect being that you stop showing any interest in new characters being introduced, because you are merely awaiting their death shortly.

@ Varun, have you read the Watchmen? How does it compare?

New irvine welsh novel out soon. Prequel to trainspotting, which is one of my favourite books so looking forward to it. Probably be first new release i buy since harry potter 7.

I still haven't read porno yet though, which was sort of a sequel. i'd want to re-read trainspotting though before i get that I guess, plus i didn't want to order something called porno when i was still living in my mum's

I haven't. Batman graphics novels are probably the only ones I have read in recent times (and that reading spree of mine was triggered by The Dark Knight of course, otherwise I probably wouldn't even have cared). I would like to read V for Vendetta, Watchmen and other graphic novels of similar genres but I don't think I'm going to do it very soon.

I don't agree with this, then again I have only read the first 4.

What I really like about the books is how they build backwards as well as forwards.

The story is going on but new characters fill in gaps about what happened before in Westeros. So as the story progresses it also progresses backwards if that makes sense.

To each their own, I could go on endlessly about how lame Lord of the Rings is

Funny story...
The front cover has a inflatable doll looking compromising on it and my bag got searched when I was going through security at Luton airport. The female official was not impressed by it.

I'd recommend most the Irvine Walsh's although they are, almost without exception, totally sick. My favourite after trainspotting is Glue.

Just finished reading "The God Delusion" for the eenth time. Have started on "The Origin of Species" again after a long break. I feel that as a critic of the, in my view one-sided, picture given by evolution I must have a thorough grasp of its arguments and proofs and see where it meets my world view and where it differs. So there you go.

KP Diaries

As a new user I am surprised that no one had read KPs online diaries. Not a book exactly but very decent read nonetheless

Day 3

I am the spotlight

I was having breakfast with the Sky TV crew. Suddenly Nas starts going off on one.

?Hey KP,? he says. ?Have you been dyeing your hair again??

?Er no. What are you going on about Nas. At least I have some hair.?

The table went silent. Nas slammed down his spoon spraying shreddies everywhere. Freddie Flintoff was covered in it. He got up and walked over to my side of the table. Getting really close into my face he said:

?This, this is hair. Look at this. Don?t you ever talk to me about hair again you insignificant piece of ----.?

With that he walked off. We all silently ate our breakfasts. From the corner of my eye I could see Bell s------ing. On my way back to my room I called in on him. He was there wearing a pink negligee. He got it all right.

I am America (and So Can You) by Dr Stephen T Colbert offers a good counterpoint.

Ordered 'The Hitchhiker's Guide To Galaxy'. Alternating between serious books and humorous books is good for me.

Enjoy it Varun. One of a few set of books that actually made me laugh out loud :)

It's the best trilogy over 5 books you'll ever read! ;)

RIP Douglas :(
