Italians seem to be doing better here than in real life. Refs not screwing them over. But a disappointing start for the Dutch, who now have to beat France in the next game.

Spain vs Russia
Match 7 , EURO 2008

Well the pre tournament Champions were raring to kickoff their campaign with a win against Russia . Spain could have gone 1-0 up in juts 2 minutes when David Villa's header from a David Silva cross hit the cross bar . Spain dominated the whole game . Fernando Torres had a great chance but he missed the target . The inform striker Torres had another shot on target which was easily saved by Akinfeev . While Russia were trying to settle in the game . But they could have destroyed Spain's morale but Paulychenko's shot hit the post and then was cleared by Puyol . But Paulychenko score beating Casillas and Russia took the lead just 1 minute before half time . Spain just after restart leveled the scoring when Sergio Ramos headed in a David Silva corner and Spain were back . Fabregas was brought on instead of the Senna . Fabregas was took just 30 second to involve in the Spain attack which was well saved by Akinfeev . Spain could have finish things off in the 90th minute . But Fernando Torres header was cleared of the line by Paulychenko and this denied Spain the win .

Greece vs Sweden
Match 8 , EURO 2008

The defending champions were against one of the dark horses of the tournament . Sweden had a very well balanced side . And they went up within 2 minutes when Nilsson's cross was headed in by Zlatan Ibrahimovic . Sweden could have doubled the lead but Henrik Larsson shot was saved by Nikopolidis . 10 minutes later Olof Melberg tackled Gekas in the penalty box and Greece was awarded a penalty . Andreas Charisteas who scored 4 years ago in the final scored again beating Isaksson to level the scores . Greece since then dominated the game with possession and attack . Gekas and Charisteas could have increase the lead further but Isaksson didnt allow anything to pass him . But 13 minutes after restart Katsouranis scored through a great header and Greece lead 2-1 . Sweden brought on Elmander and Kallstrom . Sweden created two great chances through Wilhelmsson and could have taken the lead but both of them were well saved by the veteran keeper Nikopolidis . But finally Sweden got their result when Sebastian Larsson's cross was headed in by the dangerman Wilhelemsson and Sweden had score in stoppage time to earn a draw .

Czech Republic vs Portugal
Match 9 , EURO 2008

Czech republic had to win this game if they wanted to stand a chance of qualify for the quarter finals . Czech went out with an attacking lineup . Portugal dominated the game from kick off . Ronaldo was the best player on the pitch . Portugal could have taken the lead after 12 minutes by Petr Cech kept his teams hope alive when he produced a fine save to stop Simao scoring from 7 yards . Soon Ronaldo saw his freekick hit the cross bar and then Joao Moutinho hit the bar from 4 yards . Lady luck was on Czech's side . In the second the Czech broke through a counter attack and a great cross by Sionko and which led to an great header by Jan Koller beating Ricardo and Czech Republic taking the lead . Portugal were trying hard to come back and they could have easily done through a penalty . Ronaldo was foul by Polak in the box but the replays showed that he very minimum contact with Ronadlo . It was Cristiano Ronaldo to take the penalty and Petr Cech was superb to judge the right side and save it single handedly . Ronaldo could have sent Portugal through Czech's back home but it was Czechs now who lead group A with an 1-0 win .

Switzerland vs Turkey
Match 10 , EURO 2008
St Jacob Park , Switzerland

This was another do or die game for Turkey . Turkey had to win this match if they had to play in the quarters . But Turkey got the worst possible start . After just 4 minutes captain Alexandre Frei scored from 12 yards and beat keeper Volkan . Swiss took the early lead . They could have doubled the lead but Alexandre Frei header was well saved by Volkan . Turkey had to come back to score and they could have done but Adra Turan volley went agonisingly wide . But 2 minutes before half time Emre put in a low cross and was touched in by Nihat and Turkey had equalised . After the restart Turkey could have taken the lead but Tuncay Sanli's low cross was just out of reach for Halil Altintop . 12 minutes later Halkan Balta's 25 yards shot hit the cross bar . Turkey were looking dangerous and were coming nearer to score . And it did come . Halkan Balta who shot had hit the crossbar 2 minutes ago took another long range effort but this time found the net and Turkey had taken the lead in stoppage time and then went on to win the match 2-1 .

That's one tight group. Any one could make it through, but I think Portugal and Czech Republic are in control seeing as they don't have to play each other in the final game.

Croatia vs Germany
Match 11 , EURO 2008
Worthersee , Austria

It was the fight for first and second place in the group . Yje two sides had made no changes and gone with the same side which had won last match . Germany started the game in the attacking mood to score and take the lead early . They could have done that but Ballack free header was straight in the hands of Pletikosa . But soon later its was an unlikely scorer Per Mertesacker who score the goal rather an easy goal . Mertesacker had come up for the corner but said up as the ball wasnt cleared by Croatia and a great pass by Klose finding Mertesacker and then an easy goal . Luka Modric had a great chance when his freekick went inches wide of the top corner.Germany after the restart could have sealed the match but Mario Gomez missed a sitter from 3 yards out and missing it by an inch .Miroslaw Klose had his header saved by Pletikosa and then Lukas Podolski long range shot went inches wide after deflection . While Croatia werent able to break the defence of Germany and so the final score was 1-0 to Germany . Germany were very tight in the defence espeacilly Per Mertesacker . Germany are the first team to quailfy for the quarter finals

Austria vs Poland
Match 12 , EURO 2008

in other match of group B it was the host vs Poland . Both wanted to win their first match in this tournament . This game was always predicted to be a very fierce and tight game and it was as per the expectation . With 7 minutes 2 yellow cards were seen 1 to each team . But it was the host team which were asking questions . And soon they scored their first goal in EURO 2008 . It was Harnik who scored a great volley from outside the box beating Boruc . Poland never looked like troubling Austria as they were very well co ordinated . Pogatetz was brilliant at center half of the defence . Austria could have made their fans more happier but Pogatetz header hit the bar . Soon later another Pogatetz header was saved by Boruc . In second half Poland got their only chance but it was well wide of the goal shot by Jelen . Austria while looked like scoring . Linz freekick from 22 yards was well saved by Boruc and soon later another great shot by Harnik was tipped away for a corner by Boruc . Poland were completely dominated by the host in all respects of the game and finally they won easily . And it was all over for Poland as they were knocked out of the tournament .

Like Jack said Group A is extremely tight going into the last round of games, while Germany, albeit through an unlikely goalscorer, have got the win to enter the QFs. I like Per Mertesackerthough and consider him Germany's best and only good defender.
