It's very hard to create something that everyone will enjoy. As much as an event can seem to spend too much time colouring inside the lines, there's such a thing as being too clever.

Look at the Grammys; they sparked an uproar by putting artistic merit ever so slightly ahead of commercial appeal. You might think that's the whole point of an qualitative award, but as entertainment, generally you've got to be very safe and inoffensive to please the masses.
