I was trying my hardest to think of Average cricketers, batsmen that average less than 34 in all formats seemed like a good start... those type of guys would never play 57 tests for a nation like England as an opener.

It's not often in Drafts I already know who's going to be my first pick. Whatever I pick now is going to set the tone for this draft.

My first pick is a player who not only has average stats but also average looks. Despite this he played a decent amount of matches for his country and I did liked him as player as well.

In 59 ODI matches he averages 30 with the bat and 51 with the ball.

In 38 T20I matches he averages 32 (inflated by his 14 not outs) and he only ever bowled a total of 5 overs so his bowling contribution was negligible.

Unfortunately, he did not get a chance to play Test. Maybe CSA realized that it was perhaps his best format and so they kept him in place in his average formats.

Keeping the trend of every player being from a different nation, my first pick is going to be the current West Indies Test skipper,

Roston Chase.

Every mid-tier side needs to have that one all-rounder who barely makes an impact most of the time, making you wonder if their primary discipline is just existing. If we judge Roston solely on his batting or bowling, he is not a star —but as an all-rounder, not the worst guy you could ask for.
