The Trevor Jackson Empire (Jog On Avram)

He is a brilliant player, both in FM and real-life and its only the thing about adjusting to a new league. La Liga is very different from the game in England, although it is not inferior. Its only a matter of time before he adjusts to the physical and fast nature of the English game and adapts and then stars showing his true skills.

Champions League draw complete

ChampionsLeagueTrophy.jpg

The prize they're all competing for.

The European Champions League draw took place today and saw four English teams find out their place in the league. Arsenal, Chelsea, Man Utd and Liverpool all found out the groups they were drawn in and some teams were happier than others.

Arsenal were drawn into Group D. The group consisted of Portuguese Super League champions Porto, Ukraine based team Shakhtar Donetsk who came runners up in the Ukraine Premier Division last season and fourth seed team Dinamo Zagreb of Croatia.

Porto's notable players are International rising star Jose Bosingwa. A Portuguese twenty five year old who is earning his place in the Portugal national squad quite quickly. And Helder Postiga, another twenty five year old Portuguese international. Postiga has been in the rotation position for Portugal for a few years now. He had a season long spell at Premiership team Tottenham Hotspurs where he played in nineteen matches, yet only scored one goal.

Dinamo Zagreb has received the most attention they have ever received in their history with their impressive star player Luka Modric being on the trail of Avram Grant. Reports have indicated that twenty one year old attacking midfielder could have had a bid made for him by Chelsea. Grant did not accept nor deny these rumours.

Chelsea were put into group E along with Sevilla, Lazio and Sparta Prague. Sevilla were the second seed team to be put in the group. With talent like Frederic Kanoute, Luis Fabiano and Arouna Kone at the attacking end, they are a force to be reckoned with. Sevilla were off loaded of world class full back Daniel Alves by Chelsea in a deal that cost around £18 million where as Sevilla signed Khalid Bouhlarouz from Chelsea on a season long loan.

Lazio were a huge force in Europe during the ninety's. Unfortunately for them, the last time they won the Serie A was in 2000. Since then they have gone downhill and lost star quality players. They are the third seed team in the group. However, with the likes of Goran Pandev in the squad, the major part of the Lazio set up for the past two seasons, they are not totally out of contention.

Since the Czech Republic First Division started in 1992, Sparta Prague have been the main name on the trophy. They have won the league a dominant twelve times and been runners up once. In the Champions League, they have struggled to be seen as a threat by the other teams in the competition. The Sparta Prague boss said he will try and change that as much as possible.

World football giants, Man Utd have been drawn in probably the toughest group. They see themselves in Group B, facing Barcelona, Stuttgart and Toulouse. Man Utd dropped down to a second seed team this year despite winning the Premiership title last season and stopping Chelsea from the treble. They hold the record of most Premier League title wins with their name being on the trophy nine times. In Europe though they have only succeeded on two occassions, once under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Barcelona have unsurprisingly been made favourites to win this competition. They have strengthened their squad even more so and are currently likely to win the Champions League. They face a tough test of passing the group stages though with Stuttgart and Man Utd both being serious threats to them. The likes of Ronaldinho and Leo Messi are on their side to take of those threats though.

Stuttgart have grown to be a huge threat in the German Bundesliga over the years and they saw themselves winning the title last season, beating runners up Schalke. It was their first league win since 1992 and they have grown into a much better team since then. Their captain, Bernd Schneider plays a major role in the German national team and is likely to cause other teams problems.

The final English team to be put into a group was Liverpool. They went into group H as the first seed. They were drawn with PSV, CSKA Moscow and AEK. Probably the easiest of the four groups. Liverpool and PSV have been made favourites to pass to the knock out stage from that group but CSKA Moscow aren't to be counted out.

PSV will definitely be using the wing skill of Jefferson Farfan to grab the goals for them. He has been rated extremely highly by the top clubs in the world and it is a surprise that no one has signed him yet. PSV are currently the Dutch Premiership champions three times in a row, beating Ajax on all three occassions.

CSKA Moscow are the third seed team in Group H, the final group. Despite being back to back Russian Premier League champions, they are still considered an easy target. Their home games should give the other teams some challenges, with the uneasy pitches and the ecstatic home fans getting behind their team. Their attack force of Jo and Vagner Love is considered one of the most underrated in the world.

Chelsea boss Avram Grant said this after the draw took place "We got a good group. It's not the hardest in the world, it's not the easiest either. It's a good balance that we should get through yet have to play well to do so. The players can't lay back against these teams to get the win.

We should come top of the group and that's what I expect from my players. Our star quality is far superior to the other teams. Lazio and Sparta Prague aren't given as much credit as they should be. They can put up great fights and we have to play as well as we do against teams like Sevilla to get the win out of the match.

Sevilla will probably be our biggest test. They have a great team and some top quality players. Their attackers are very good and can score a lot of goals. I'm sure our defence will take care of them but we will have to give it one hundred percent for the win otherwise we'll go out of the game with nothing."

Some very good groups there. Will comment on them separately:

Group A: A pretty tough group, with the exception of Debrechen who I have never heard of. Lyon and Roma have to be favourites to go through, but Ajax are more than capable of beating either of those two. Will be an interesting group to watch.

Group B: Very hard group. Machester United will have a tough job against Stuttgart and Barcelona. Barca and United have to be favourites, but Stuttgart are a very good side. Toulouse could be whipping boys over their 6 games.

Group C: Another superb group. Three big names in there again. Inter Milan vs Real Madrid will be one of the best matches in the group stages. Sporting are very capable of making it through also. Not heard of Zaglebie, but I expect they will have to fight hard for a single point.

Group D: A tough group for Arsenal. Porto I expect to make it through top, but Shakhtar and Zagreb will be tough away games. If Arsenal can win away from home I'll have no doubt they'll make it through.

Group E: Chelsea should make it through with ease. Sevilla will be tough, but Chelsea still have better quality than them. I predict that Sevilla and Chelsea will only lose to each other in this one.

Group F: A good group again. AC Milan should make it through, but any of the other three could claim second spot. Marseille have to be favourites for the second place, but Schalke and Anderlecht are good sides, and they will not give up easily.

Group G: The best of the lot. A fantastic group. Valencia and Werder Bremen are the big names, but Olympiakos have proved many a time that they are capable of beating good sides. Dynamo Kiev likewise. I still think Valencia and Bremen will make it through, but not without a few scares along the way.

Group F: Liverpool have got a good draw. Seem they like playing PSV. I could see them winning all their games if they play their best football. Will be a tough battle for second, though. PSV are a bit hot and cold, and the other two can take advantage of that. I would put my money on CSKA making it through, but it's wide open.

Loving it Mani :)

Group A: Lyon and Roma favourites to proceed but cant underestimate Ajax. Derbeceen for fourth place.

Group B: Toughest of all the groups. Man Utd and Barca clear favourites but shocks could be created by the German side.

Group C: Another tough group but Madrid and Inter to progress

Group D: Well this is the most equally balanced group with any one could progress but I think Arsenal and Porto will do it.

Group E: Will be easy for Chelsea. Sevilla away will be a good fixture to watch. Cant see anyone else other than Chelsea with Sevilla progressing.

Group F: Milan sure to go to the next round. Well tough to see if Marseille or Schalke progress. Anderletch would be the surprised package.

Group G:Valencia and Bremen to qualify for sure. Olympiakos for Uefa Cup.

Group H: Easy for Liverpool. Liverpool and PSV may be through but in CM CSKA Moscow are great so they might also progress.

Loved the writing Mani. KUTGW

I'll go for the ultimate prediction. Real Madrid to beat Barcelona in the final 4-3 on penalties after 2-2 after extra time. Chelsea to lose in the semis to Madrid. Sorry, Mani.

Ferguson and Utaka pick up monthly accolades

Ferguson.png

Ferguson with a smile on his face.

Sir Alex Ferguson and John Utaka have won the monthly awards for August. They have picket up the Manager of the Month and Player of the Month for August respectively. Ferguson said that the happiness of winning the award does never go away.

Sir Alex Ferguson has got off to the perfect start in the season. His Man Utd team have won all three games in their path to retain the Premier Leauge trophy. The superb defence that has consisted of Patrice Evra, Garry Neville, Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand are yet to let the opposition score a goal. Man Utd are joint top of the table with Chelsea and Newcastle with nine points.

Portsmouth's new signing John Utaka has received his first award since joining Pompey last month. He has scored two goals this season in the three Premiership games for Portsmouth. He signed for Portsmouth for a fee of ?7 million and the twenty five year old is already proving his worth for the side.

He said this "It's an honour to win the award. I have been at Portsmouth for a month and I've already got an award. I'm shocked, I really am. I didn't think I'd beat such world class players to the award. I might sound like I'm overreacting because it's a monthly award but to me every single thing counts. The fact I received this award is brilliant.

My team mates such as David [Nugent, Roo [Rui Costa] and Dave [David Bently] have done all the work. They deserve the award more than me. I have just been at the right place at the right time for the goals. I am very lucky to win the award."

After the first month of the Premiership, the race for the trophy has already heated up. Man Utd under the management of Sir Alex Ferguson, a nine time winner of the Premier League, currently stand top of the pile in the table on a goal difference of eight. New manager Avram Grant has got off to the perfect start for Chelsea by winning all three games and gaining nine points, they are second with a goal difference of five. Newcastle and Sam Allardyce are third with nine points and a goal difference of four.

Dr. Pepper added 1 Minutes and 26 Seconds later...

Note: I didn't do a transfer window round up, although I wanted to, because I don't get a transfer window round up message on CM08 unfortunately.

Two goals the highest so far? But I guess Utaka has the highest average rating. Ferguson was an obvious choice, because his team have not even conceded a goal.

Man Utd have been pretty awesome so far. No goals in 3 games is very impressive, and so I think Fergie deserves the MotM award. Would have thought someone else would've scored more than 2 goals so far, but obviously Utaka's performances have been superb. I bet is a massive boost picking up that award in you first playing month at a club.

Good work Mani :)

Man Utd are the best in England and even in Cm as they are yet to concede a goal in 3 matches. Utaka average rating must be high and so has won him the PoTM award which he deserves.

Good work Mani.
