Awesome story mate:happy. Is Cooky going to get punished for his late night activities?

Monday 8th April

Myself and Darren were at the crease with the score 56/4. Luckily for Darren, Mike had got out on the last ball of the over so he would not be facing. We had a quick chat,

"Alright mate. We just need to keep it cool. It's tricky work so expect all sorts of things."

"Yeah we've been watching up there. The skip is well impressed with the way you've been batting. He says to tell you to keep up the good work."

It was great to know my hard work was being appreciated. I just had to knuckle down and score the runs. To be honest I was nervous for the team. I was feeling in good touch but at the rate we were losing wickets I'd soon be batting with the tail. The first ball of the next over I got an inside edge!!!!! Luckily it missed the leg-stump and we got an easy single. That brought Darren on strike. He took a line on middle and leg. And you can guess what happened. That's right. A Golden Duck :noway A good length ball on middle and off, Darren did not judge it right and it seamed in to him and trapped him. It was a close call but the replays did show it was out. However there were calls that he had gotten an inside dge. You decide  I was gutted but I was not as angry as Darren who swiped his bat in frustration and sent the stumps flying. It was done accidently and he straight away apologised to the umpires but it was 25% of his match fee gone. We were now in crisis. I had to make a big score now and someone had to stay and support me!

As Darren slowly trudged of with his head bowed in disappointment, Andy jogged out confidently. It was going to be good fun to bat with my mentor. I could feel us making a nice solid partnership.

"Alright Tom. Ready to score some runs?"

"Hell yeah!! Let's both make at least half-centuries."

Over the next five minutes my guardian (cricket :p) Angel must have been looking over me. I just went into stupid mode. I attempted to crack Lewis back over his head. I completely mis-timed it, but luckily so did the fielder who started running in far too late. The ball landed about 7 feet short of him  I wouldn't be trying any agressive shots for a long time. The very next ball, Lewis put in the slower delivery. I completely failed to pick it up and spooned it to square-leg. Sillence put down an absolute sitter!!!!!!!!! I could not believe it. I felt sorry for Lewis and he gave me a wry smile,

"Someone has the big man watching over him today! ;)"

Andy then came over to me.

"Ok, you've been lucky twice. Don't tempt your fate too many times. Time to concentrate again."

I had rode my luck and come through the other side with my wicket still in one piece. Time to go back to the solid game I had been playing earlier on.

Andy soon struck a beautiful punch shot straight back past the bowler for 4. It was a classy shot and the crowd showed it's appreciation. Andy did actually look in pretty good form. I also sensed the weather warming up and the clouds dispersing. The ball also did not seem to be seaming around so much. Did things suddenly seem to be turning in our favour? We only had a lead of 92 runs and were 5 wickets down. If we were to have a comfortable target to bowl at it would have to be at least a lead of 225. That meant that we were the guys who would have to do it.

It was going to be hard work, but this is what we are payed to do. Could one of us make the first century of the season for Kent? Or would the Gloucestershire boys skittle us out? Only time would tell.
