With Chelsea being taken over by Abramovich and now City being taken over by oil rich Arabs, this will surely open the floodgates for other teams to be taken over. As this is the way things are going, if someone wants to buy you and pump money into you, you need to accept if you don't want to get left behind. With that in mind, remember that these new owners want success now.
So, what are they going to do? Pump money into a youth academy to produce good young English players that will pay dividends in the future? No. They'll just go out and buy ready made foreign stars, reducing the chances of young English players coming through even further. And it's likely that more and more clubs will be swept down this route.

So, isn't it time that the FA acts now, before the England team dies out completely? Obviously, we can't stop the foreign owners (who of course couldn't care less about the England team) buying each and every next best thing that comes along, but what the FA (or Fifa) can do is impose a limit on foreigners. I reckon something like six at the most at any one time on pitch would strike a good balance, hence forcing the new owners to pump money into youth academies as well as buying foreign stars otherwise, they literally wouldn't be able to field an entire team!

So, what do you guys think? Should the FA push Fifa for a foreigner limit or not? I mean, surely it's getting beyond a joke when more many more players in our league are foreign than English? Don't we want to stop the England team becoming even more of a laughing stock for world football? Then we need a foreigner limit.

Let the debate begin! Post your thoughts!

Completely disagree with the idea of any caps or limits. If British players aren't good enough then they shouldn't be wasting their time as professionals. I'm happy to see XI foreigners in each team if it increases the quality of the football and British players can go and play in the Bulgarian and Polish leagues ;)

And everyone has a go at Arsenal for not having enough English players :p I'm willing to bet that we'll contribute the most England internationals in 5 years.

Thinking about it, ultimately the English team fails because our players choke at international level, not because they're not good enough to start with.

But how can youngsters possibly expect to be at the level of the sort of established professionals that these new owners will be looking to bring in? It's not going to happen, is it? They need time to develop as footballers and they need to spend that time playing first team football!

I don't agree at all. It has nothing to do with choking, it has to do with their lack of desire to play for the team and not for their club's ?/$!

Well in hindsight the owners should be developing the youth academies to their full potential and giving the youth players the best world class players around as their mentors. As I said, in hindsight.

That would be ideal, but it wouldn't give them instant success would it? It would build a strong foundation for England's future, but they couldn't give a fig about that!

Listen to the new City owner, this is basically what he's saying.

'All that matters is success and we will buy any player necessary to achieve it, at any price.'

And that's what all new, foreign owners will be like. Unfortunately, there don't seem to be many English oil barons (!)

Damn, if only the world was in demand for fish and chips. We can make oil from that.

Surely you should take a look at who owns your club before you get on your high horse about Man City and Chelsea.

I think United are an exception because they were already successful whereas Chelsea and City were mid-tablers so Fergie can do what he wants in the way of bringing up youth talent

That's a bit far. In the 7 seasons before Abrahimovic came the lowest we came was 6th.

So its ok to buy a successful club? But not to turn a less successful club into one that challenges for the title? So what you are really moaning about is that you are afraid that other clubs might go ahead of Man Utd. Get one thing straight. Man Utd are where they are now mostly because the saw the business opportunities before other clubs did. OK having a manager like Fergie for such a long time also helps, but just where do you think the money comes from for Man Utd to buy Berbatov? Is it ok for United to buy a player like that - who isn't English, but it's not ok for another club to do the same?

There are plenty of English players getting time in the first team and if they're better than the foreigners then they'll get that time to develop.

Not at all. I don't buy the idea that players don't perform for England cos they're not paid as well. As Capello is discovering English players seem to panic when playing against foreigners rather than with them. I'm fairly optimistic that this will improve eventually as England are a top 8 team but I'd much rather top English players were able to play alongside the best in the world for their club side and learn from them than have a mediocre EPL and a national team that still underperforms (as we had in the early 90s).

Not sure if you're referring to me or MB?

United might be where because we were good at business, but at least we've done something to earn our position as opposed to just getting some rich bloke in. We wouldn't have had the business oppurtunitys without the football, that has always been the number 1 reason for us being where we are today, it's not our fault if it coincides with sky and the premiership becoming massive. How was Glazer relevent anyway, he's talking about people buying success, Glazer is the complete reverse.
