We started a trip walking back into the big room which I described earlier. The ledges looked even smaller than last time! I'm not good with heights or Crocodiles so I think it's fair to say that I nearly... wet myself. Moving swiftly on from that, Mani says it is not a test of what way to go, but a test of which steps along the side you should take.
"It's simple really. You can see they are all individual steps? Aye?"
"Yeah..."
"Well some of them are trick steps and will release the fire above and will make all the ledge crumble into the oil and crocodiles and it won't be a pretty sight."
"How many trick steps are there?"
"I remember there being 23 steps and about 4 trick steps on either side..."
You know I said I nearly wet myself earlier? Well I'd lie if I said I nearly did then... He advised we both went along the right ledge, as he could remember where one of the trick steps are. We went along, Mani leading from the front, myself in the middle with Landkort lacking behind. The ledge overlooked the oil and Crocodiles below and gave you a hair chilling view. Let alone the sweat coming of your head from the Fire just above. One wrong step and that fire will come down and set the oil alight. Not good. Or we could make it all the way and still be alive. Good.
We had past 4 steps on the right side and then came to a sudden stop. Along with the terrifying view and the fire above keeping you on your toes, and giving you an incentive on to keep going there was also another problem. The ledge itself was incredibly small and wasn't sturdy at all, feeling like it would collapse at any moment and we would be in a catastrophic cascade.
"This is the first trick step; as well as the second."
"Come again?"
"The next two steps are both trick steps."
"Ah."
Mani stepped other both the steps and only by a small margin did he make it. This scared me a little as I was only a little taller than him, so I should be safe but Landkort was a little smaller. Nah, we'll both make it. I leaned over the steps, with a sudden petrified look on my face as I looked down and saw all the crocodiles looking up. I had made it though. Easily.
It was now Landkorts go and he didn't look confident at all and you know how we usually is? Yep, confident all the time. He was literally shaking and it seemed the thought of doubt was going through his mind. He needed some encouragement as it didn't look like he was going to do it.
"You can do it Landkort, I know you can!"
"I know..."
"Fine. On the Count of three do a massive leap or step, anything."
"1..."
"2..."
"3!"
He leaped and got to the other side! A massive grin came across his face as he seemed chuffed with his jump. I knew he would do it. Just as we were turning round though, I heard a little scuffle behind me. Landkort had stepped back onto the trick step! He looked up slowly, gradually bringing his face towards are's. You know the look of death warmed up? He look like death not warmed up but if we didn't get out then he would be warmed up! The fire!
We looking up, the fire was falling gradually and behind us the steps were falling down to the crocodiles in perfect sync with the other side. We needed to get out but we couldn't go back. We saw the opening on the other side, in complete parallel to the door we came in. The bad thing? There was a boulder slowly covering it.
We're doomed.
